Irrational tyre views?

Yes, but if you managed to directly link the hypothetical crash being because the tyres were not up to the job. Then linked the fact the car has them to the employer demanding cheap ones be fitted. Could have a case. All this is in my head though.

Doesn't work like that. Being up to the job just means legal, otherwise cheap tyres wouldn't exist.

In theory I don't have a leg to stand on by NOT fitting ditchfinders as it's his van and his money, so if he so wanted he could kick off. I'll take the chance, once they're fitted and paid for what's the worst he can do?

P45?

30k+ out of the PS4? I only manage 12k out of the ps3 on the driven wheels. Are they that much better for wear?

My PS4's are on exactly 30k now (225/40/18, Audi A3 2.0 TDI 202BHP). I would say 75% of that mileage is going to work and back, which is a lot of twisty roads I like to throw the car around, they have done fantastically well.

Its not ideal but it will be absolutely fine (well, relatively speaking) running around on those tyres. How do you think 80% of the drivers on the road manage? :p

Many of them don't, 200,000 people a year are injured in road accidents every year and hundreds of thousands more crash but fortunately only with damage to the vehicle.

Many of the cars involved will have either had good tyres or will have been in a situation where better tyres wouldnt have helped much though.

Sigh.

Yes, it will be fine. Until it isnt. How do people not understand this? You could drive around on tyres with cut sidewalls barely holding in air, and they will be fine. Until they arent. Or tyres with the cords exposed which will be fine. Until they aren't.

The simple fact is that you are more likely to have an accident running on multiple mismatched budget tyres than you are on a set of matching mid range or premium tyres. They can literarlly be the difference betwee slamming into the back of a car still doing 30-40mph, or stopping 10 feet clear of any accident at all.

In most cases though driving more defensively would stop you ending up in those situations in the first place.

I would assume going to different places to get a tyre changed from time to time. Just settling with the cheapest one each time.

At least with Devanti seeming to take over every little independent garage and tyre repair shop we might start to see more similar tyres being put on cars

What I meant was when tyres are rotated they wear pretty evenly so either they're not rotated, constantly damaged, or someones trying to get the last wear out of each individual tyre even if they're borderline.?

Then again, i'm probably overly cautious and change tyres earlier than they are probably needed. :D

Derp :D

Oh well thats alright then.

Says the person who doesn't believe the extra benefit of winter tyres for the off change of an incident on ice for 4-5 months of the year is worth it... ;)

Your logic is the same logic Acme and the others are using. :p

So given the option of two different Pilot Sports... One is a 93, the other is a 97... Which would you go for and why?
Efficiency takes a hit with the harder sidewall/higher load rating...

An interesting question asked by the Mrs that I couldn't answer...
The PS4 has a wet rating A and efficiency E... That's not as good as a where as some ditch finders have much higher rating... A and C respectively is not uncommon, so why as an uneducated consumer would you ever plump for the PS4?
All I could say is that there is far more to a tyre than just wet braking and fuel eff. Interesting question though.

It's because those ratings are nonsense, it's compared to an 'independent reference tyre'. Given that the tests were conceived over 5 years ago, it's not hard to imagine why most tyres are able to achieve an A rating against a 5 year old 'reference' tyre, when the difference between ratings is effectively something like 3m braking distance from 50mph.

If they were to revise the rating like they have with energy efficiency ratings you'd probably find the PS4 is an A+++ tyre whilst other stuff would just be an A still.

I always figured lower efficiency meant a grippier tyre.
