As title, does anyone have any experience to share? I see there are different models of dock that support different models of Latitude, but it's all a bit muddy as to current kit.

Basically I want to be able to slap it on a dock on my desk which is connected to 2 DP monitors (will be buying these from Dell too).

From what I have seen, if you want to daisy chain 2 DP monitors any laptop and dock will work if it has a DP output.
The main point is finding two DP monitors that have an output as well as an input so you can connect the second one to the first one.

We have a setup like this at work with a Surface 3 so nothing particularly powerfull required.

I will say though that are a few niggles with this type of set up that are fairly common. The one I see most is one of the monitors failing to come on after power save.
There are a few web articles if you google it.

Wouldn't it be easier to get one with Thunderbolt 3 that splits into dual DP ports?

Much better way to go about it potentially and/or drive the other display via USB C - I can daisy chain from my laptop using my Dell UW which supports it and the any other DP monitor on the end but results aren't ideal with often some compromise in resolution/refresh rate and some glitches.

Thanks, I knew they can be a bit hit and miss. I've found a 2/3 way USB3 to hdmi/dp adaptor, probably the way forward rather than daisy chaining. I would have thought laptop makers would have a decent solution... I can't live without at least 2 screens, I have 3x 24" at work.

Edit: this is for driving spreadsheets, RDP sessions and powershell so refresh rates are a low priority. Now to find some decent screens that aren't 1920x1080...

Do the monitors NEED to use display port?
At work we use TB16 Thunderbolt docks with XPS laptops and 2 P2317H.
The docks have one HDMI, one DP and one mini DP port and the above monitors work great. We generally use one DP plus the HDMI.

Word of warning with thunderbolt docks, and the Dell in particular. Check if they are going to charge the laptop as well. If so, make sure the power supply for the dock is sufficient for this whilst powering the dock.
The TB16 can come with either a 180w or 240w power supply. We found out the hard way after multiple random issues with XPS15 laptops.

That's useful info, thanks. Was going to somewhat cheap out on the laptop as it won't be doing too much but I'll look into models with thunderbolt. Is USB type C comparable in video out or is it just behind in that regard?

I believe USB-C is limited on its 4k abilities. It will only do 4k @ 30hz due to bandwidth limitations.
Other than that, the USB-C ones should be fine.
As we only buy Dell at work we use their WD15 dock when Thunderbolt isn’t available and it happily drives 2 24” full hd screens.
It can also charge laptops as well, although I think there is a power limit for USB-C in this regard.
