Hi,

I'm in the process of redesigning our bathroom, going for dark grey/black tiles, white ceiling, shower/bath, vanity sink and toilet. It's your typical 3-bed semi bathroom, small but practical.

I'm considering replacing the current radiator with a new old style cast iron one but we'd also like a heated towel rail but there's not the wall space for both. Does anyone know of a design that does both in one unit? I don't want the single one but several rails. I do have the option of speaking to an old school friend with a fabrication business. Supply him the rad and a design and ask him to drill the top of the cast iron rad and weld in pipework for a towel rail.

EDIT:

Also, looking at lighting. We've currently a single unit in the middle of the room. If you're facing the sink it's right behind you and you can see nothing in the shaving mirror. It's also a pull string inside the room. Considering options for extra lights/downlights maybe but i'd like to add the option for a more subtle lighting for chilling in the bath. Any ideas for this? I was thinking wifi lights maybe but would they reset every time they were turned on and off or would it have to be done via a phone each time? Any alternative ideas? I don't really want to have to remove the pull and replace with a switch outside the room but if I have to I will.

Don't tile it black!

What flooring are you going for it's worth considering underfloor heating leaves you loads of room for a proper towel radiator.

Lighting i'd move to a switch or two outside and add a mirror with lights for shaving etc and some dimmable downlighters for control in a small modern style bathroom I'd ditch the central rose.

Re: the lighting, have you considered LED strip lights recessed in the skirting then switched from the outside/next to the existing switch.
Just seen you don’t want to replace the pull cord. Oh well :)

Radiator towel rails are definitely a lot better looking and practical in a bathroom, especially if you don't have a lot of space.

Just Google "traditional towel radiator" and there's loads. Be sure to check eBay as most sellers also sell on eBay for cheaper.

I've got one of those, doesn't give out a whole lot of heat to be honest. I had to add a second radiator and I'm seriously contemplating adding a fan heater too.

How big is your bathroom, may I ask?
I only ask as you’d have thought a rad that size would be sufficient for a normal 2000x2000 room.

It's 4m x 4m but also about 3m high which is the killer. It also has 2 large windows and a massive Velux window in the roof so I don't know if that makes things colder too.

Fitted one of these in our old place, best thing ever! Tall, so lots of room for towels and kicks out the heat!

2783Btu 816W
Which was perfect for our little bathroom in the semi, 2m x 2.5m x normal height ceiling, well insulated, small window.

You need to do the maths to figure our radiator sizing:

so for 4mx4m x3m tall, with a 1m2 windows you need a bit over 5000 BTU's....

Get underfloor heating.

The entire room can be below zero air temperature and if your feet are warm it almost doesn't matter.

Makes it much more flexible when it comes to towel rail options as well, but at the same time it's obviously better to get something suitably sized for the room.

Underfloor heating using the electric matt but also buy a small matt and install behind the tiles on one of the walls them mount a small towel rail above. Very sleek and what we are doing in high end apartments at the moment.
