For gaming I would recommend the 6 core processors. Either the Ryzen 1600 or wait for the 2600 when it launches.

You could also go Intel and look at the i5 8400 which is also 6 core.

With Ryzen I would recommend 3000MHz RAM, Ryzen really benefits from high speed memory and the cost difference should not be enough to put you off.

For an extra £10-£15 you should consider 3000+ RAM as Paul has mentioned Ryzen does benefit from faster speeds, Id go for the Ryzen 5 1600 CPU also as it will do you for a few years to come

This can't be serious. A PC ISN'T a console!!
More cores is always better for the PCs.

What on earth are you waffling about? Did you read OPs post? He is linking all of the budget Ryzen CPUs, not the 1800X or i7 8700k. Why would I recommend an 8 core CPU or higher if the OP doesn't specify that in his budget.

because its 4k8kw10. most, if not all of his/her/its posts are drivel...lol.
i would say just have a look at his posting history, but dont. you may get an aneurysm :p
sorry you feel that way, please dont post on questions then i ask,god gave you a mind of your own and you can always scroll past the post if it offends you and not say anything and be a nice person, we all have a choice?,,, Yes i am obvs not a computer whizz, so thats why im asking here, im also not a millionaire either, so trying to get best for my pounds i can get, and if always asking daft questions on here is the way i might learn and spend money at oc as a result well i thinks that a win win for oc and me, but hey ho .

How old is your current configuration?
Despite of Corsair hype GS-serie is one of those standard quality PSUs with cheap capacitors so might not be in best shape any more.

just fyi, the comments are not aimed at you. and yes, if you ask, you'll get answers here. that's why we post, isnt it? :)
some other posters like to waste other people's money. that's all i'm saying. feel free to ignore me though
just be warned :)
feel free to check our post histories if you want proof. easy enough.

Wait a few weeks for the new 2600 Ryzen chips for sure, then check out the benchmarks. Should see an improvement over the 1600 :)
thanks for the advice, i want to upgrade now as i have a trigger finger on buy now ;) but i can wait a few weeks, might have that little bit extra then, and thanks for the heads up on my psu(my foot warmer) ;)

I would, and I'm similar to you!!! :D

The 2600 will no doubt be better for gaming, and a better all-rounder than the Intel chips without Hyperthreading (the 2600 has it, hence the advantage).

1st gen

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £406.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Rough pricing on ryzen 2600x

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £586.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

19th not to far away for accurate pricing but seems AMD will have nice spread and should be able to see reviews if spending the extra is worth it :)

You are proposing a processor without HT enabled, just six cores which proves to be too little.

all depends on programs used , I can show a £250 i7 8700 6/12 being equal to a £600 1920X ripper 12/24 - thats double the cost and half the amount of 'processing power' . and vise versa 1700 mashing a 8700k saving £90 on the Core alone

for an all round system with edge on gaming, Ryzen 1600+ B350 & i5 8400 + B360 are going to be hard to ignore over 2600x+x470 and 8600k+z370 due to price increase.

to be honest, still think these will get a lot more quotes then newer ryzen for budget posters to get the most of high GPU prices - good times :D

think i'll drop a 2600x in my B350 board and see how that goes- should be interesting

That all depends on the usage. That 6 core cpu that you say is not enough has 4-5 cores more than needed for most of the games that I play. The games (mainly simulators) that I play require raw speed over cores and unfortunately AMD still has a long way to go to catch up in single threaded performance. Hopefully the new CPU's when released will close the gap a bit more but I am not expecting much more from them this time around.
