Hi at present I have a

3930k ( 4.2) Asus p9x79 - 16gig ram with x-fire 290's.

I only really play battlefield3.

I was thinking about moving to an 8700k, asrock taichi. 8pack 3866ram with a vega64.

I've got a Free sync x34 so need to kind of stick with amd.

The basket total comes to £1,649 as it includes a cpu & gpu block.

I've been thinking about doing this for months, keep filling a basket then not committing to it.

So I guess some views on what your do would be helpful

There's probably no need to upgrade, apart from the amount of heat my pc kicks out makes it unbearable in the summer..

Thanks

Ha yea this is precisely the reason I keep not doing it, I guess it's just I've had this set up since something like 2013 & it just feels like I should change.

Although you're right..

I'd personally get the graphics upgrade and see how it goes, should perform well.

Funnily enough that's what has lead me here..I was sat with a vega in my basket looked at the price & thought well f##k me, I may as well change everything for that much

Pointless CPU sidegrade - not worth as you already have a hex core processor? Coffee lake is also pretty hot running...and will put out 130w when overclocked.

Yea I'd figured this. I guess you guys are confirming what I know already. An upgrades pretty pointless except maybe a gpu

Cheers x

One Good GPU will up your performance now end, I know you want to stick with AMD but if you get a one good Nvidia such as a 1080ti you wont have any FPS issues which need free sync.

Also what ar eyou using for storage SSD's are a great cheaper investment

x-fire 290's
xfire 290 has about the same, maybe slightly less, graphics processing performance as a 1080ti - *if* game supports xfire properly
so anything less than a 1080ti (like vega64) may see a fps decrease (but is made up for in much better smoothness as there won't be any xfire issues)

lol everyone raving about adaptive sync...i may need to try it out in the future.
tbh, even with lower fps, just gaining the smoothness of freesync + lack of xfire issues may be worth upgrading sidegrading all on its own

Throw a Vega in first. I went from an R9 390 to a Vega 56 and it puts out noticeably less heat, although in my case the blower cooler helps as it exhausts out the back rather than dumping it in the case...

Also if you get a reference Vega then be prepared to tweak it a little for noise. Nothing hard, just a little undervolting to get the fan to stay around 2k rpm (where I gather it's fairly reasonable with noise)

The games I play actually work with x-fire. I suspect I'll just sit as I am for another year. As I can't find a reference vega64 so I'll.end up getting the strix as.thats the only one I can find on sale with a waterblock for.it

I use a crucial can't remember which one ssd.

Sounds about right. Mine tends to run at 2500rpm ish, but I'm wearing a headset so doesn't bother me...
