I had an old Zowie Fk1 and now have (about 2.5 years old) zowie FK2, I do like the Zowie mice the shape and buttons are good, BUT I really do not like the scroll wheel it feels quite bad, "cheesy" would be the best word I can think of to describe it, like it is an old scroll wheel with loads of junk stuck in it. can anyone tell me if a new Zowie FK1 would have a better scroll wheel than the old ones, have they improved this in new models? Or will it have the same scroll wheel? I would get a new Zowie if they have improved this or probably try something else if the wheel is still the same, for example my Logitech G402 I do not like the shape or weight but the scroll wheel on logitech is about 10000x better than the Zowie. Can anyone give me any info about this would save me some effort thanks.

The wheel on the FK series is intentionally clicky and a little clunky - if you want a free running one then unfortunately not the series for you. (And personally I hope they don't change that).

I'll compare my old FK1 to my newer FK2 when I get home. I know they changed the number of steps per rotation between versions. It could also be with age that the mechanism has gotten dirty etc and is not running as it should.

It is not that I want a "free running" one, I do not like that, but the mouse wheel on my FK2 as I said before feels "cheesy" as if it has a load of gunk stuck in it, just not very nice to use, the logitech G402 I also have here for example still has the steps it is not "free running", but it feels nice to use unlike the zowie, other than the mouse wheel the zowie FK1 or FK2 shape is the best I have used. Maybe I will try either the logitech g pro or the Asus evolve. OR another Zowie if they have improved the scroll wheel, for reference the zowie FK2 I have here is the one with the white logo and white mouse wheel, I think the newer ones are red with black wheel? Are they any different? or different colours and exactly the same mouse / wheel?

All the wheels were a much of muchness in testing. But it is very possible that your mouse wheel does have a load of gunk in it. Mine both did so I cleaned them this morning, plus I stretched the springs inside the wheel assembly so they are a little less spongy and the steps are more defined.

Ah dunno then - pretty much all the mice I have feel approx. the same if they are clicky wheels and I have a few of the FK series - the FK2 is my main one.

Well all I can say is the logitech 402 wheel is much nicer, I will try cleaning it but I think it might just be how the wheel is on the Zowie. Other than the wheel very good mouse. Its not THAT bad, but the logitech wheel is significantly better.

I'm not very sensitive about scroll wheels, but yes, zowies can feel a rough if it's something that bothers you. The main difference between their models is the number of 'steps'. 16 steps are noticeably rougher than 24 steps wheels, and even then, the 24 steps wheel are not up to par with other manufacturer in terms of smoothness and easiness.

Hell, you should try the Zowie AM. Feels like you're handling an old tractor :) Really notchy wheels, and you need Stalinium strength to press the buttons, especially the M3. The new zowies are better, and they keep improving, but never quite there.

All I can say is try them, or look at reviews, because they are always tinkering with their wheels, although the underlying design hasn't actually changed. I think they'll always stay on the side of 'rougher' feel, compared to others, because 'pro gaming'.

I have an FK1 which I had cleaned and boxed up and left in the cupboard for about two years. The formerly white wheel is now yellow and sticky. The material Zowie uses is not stable and breaks down over time it seems :(
