That awful auction site (ebay)

despite offering free postage ,buyer opened a dispute when he didn't get it 4 days after buying. This is despite it saying 3-4 working days postage and the 4th day being a Saturday.

Just because you offer free postage doesn't mean you can send it out whenever you feel like it. You still should get it there within the delivery estimate you gave. Saturdays count as delivery days so if you selected 3-4 days postage it would have shown the estimated delivery as being the saturday:

Still, he's being unreasonable and you should call eBay as others have suggested to sort it out.

Yeah, true, however it was a genuine mistake which I've tried to explain. I asked for 1st class recorded and they charged me 2nd at the post office. He has sent me pictures of the received parcel through eBay messages and the tracking number says it's there and signed for but he still wants 32p to close the case.

I agree you should sent it in good time but it's mental to ask for the difference in postage you didn't pay.

If you were meant to send 1st but sent it 2nd, I'd probably pay the 32p and take it on the chin as my error. If no postage method was given and it was him arguing that your preferred method was too slow, that's different.

After all, it's not his fault you (the post office) made a mistake?

Technically he's rright. But absolutely tragic this is so important to him.
Just take. Some solace he probably had no friends or girlfriend etc and is miserable.

Send him the money.
And subscribe him up to some tragic lonely magazine!

This is why I always put 3-5 day other courier as I cant often post the next day. Even if I post 4 days late I can go. 1st class and its fine.

For 32p, just pay it and gets funds released.

As said and sorry to say this but it was an error your end when it came to postage so really don't see why you would go this far as to argue the case for the sake of paying 32p.

True but I'm refunding him money I paid for!

I havnt gone this far over 32p. This has been on going for a couple of weeks but this morning he has said he won't release the funds until I pay that. He's waited 2 weeks to tell me I owe him that. It's literally just something he's thought up I think.

It's not money you paid though, it's money you should have paid but didnt.
You asked for 1st class postage and they charged you for 2nd class, so you saved yourself 32p which you didnt expect to have - it would be no loss to you to send that to the buyer.

I wouldn't though - just be patient and paypal/ebay should sort it for you.

Send him 31p. When he asks where the rest of the money is claim you sent it all and refuse to listen to reason. Demand that he provide you with a letter from Paypal confirming.
