hello,

looking to do a nice stable over clock on our new work station.

Spec as follows:

i9 7940x
gigabyte aorus gaming 7 pro mobo
be quiet silent loops 360mm cooler
64gb 3000mhz ram
M.2 1000gb ssd
250gb ssd
8tb HDD

i am very new to overclocking so need to get as much detail as possible.

The machine will be working on huge projects so needs to be nice and stable.

TIA

Have you tried researching the best overclock for that processor. As a starting point as not many people here will own I9 CPU's i don't think.

That cpu should hit 4.4+..... You need delid though in all honesty... And that board is not great for OC on 14 cores in my opinion..

Try firstly xmp mems, high or turbo llc, 4.4 1.2v but the cooler may not be se to handle loads of stress testing... So don't do loads, just use your pc as normal.

high or turbo llc what is this? sorry im very new to overclocking.

we need the PC to run for hours on end processing so will 4.4 be too high?

LLC is loadline calibration which impacts VCCIN on this platform. High / Turbo is likely the terminology used on the Gigabyte board.

Depends on how well your cooling solution holds up, however, should be ok at 1.2v. My 7940X does 4.6 @ 1.23v. 4.4 should be no trouble non AVX.

If you need this and are new to oc why did you not just let us build you a machine to fit your needs and tune accordingly to your work loads??
