Oh good, DSG broken

The old 1.6 wasn't much better. Took my Bora in for third year service, mentioned a bit of gearbox whine when coasting. They said it was fine.

Under a week later, nasty noise on the motorway off-slip coming home from work. Didn't want to change gear cleanly. Got the car home and there's a trail of oil down the drive and a pool of it spreading under the car. Took it in the day after ... 3 inch hole in the gearbox casing. Chocolate diff rivets had broken, things inside the gearbox punched a hole from the inside out. 3 days warranty left on the car.

Similar failures happened to a fair few cars. First replacement gearbox lasted a couple of days, faulty oil seal was leaking on the clutch.

Gotta be honest, I wouldn't touch a DSG box with a bargepole. Give me a 6 speed manual any day...

Isn’t this what happens when people actually use the search function though

There is a happy medium though. Personally I’d say that threads that have gone without replies for say 6 months should auto-lock. Would stop needless necros.

Could still allow the OP or a moderator request to unlock if required.

Yeah, and when you decide to do a search, you have to filter through the threads you find that are full of morons telling the OP to search.

Moral of the story is don't be a wannabe moderator and don't reply unless you're providing a useful answer:p
