Cex 24 Month Warranty

Bought an LG G6 from them a couple of months ago, and it was A grade (Which it was)

Anyway, went to take the SIM card out yesterday as I wanted to put an SD card in it, and only half of it has actually come out, with the other half seemingly stuck inside the phone - seems like there's no way of getting it out.

Cex offer a 24 month warranty, but I'm under the impression that's the sort of issue that Cex will try and blame me for, despite, after a quick Google search discovering that it's a massive issue with the G6 and that LG actually cover this problem under their warranty.

This is basically what's happened, except on the SD card slot side and not the sim card slot (Too lazy to take a picture of it myself)

Any chance Cex might actually replace it?

I think you're spot on with your comments and I reckon CeX will try and worm their way out of it. I only sell to them, when desperate but never buy. Only way is to pay them a visit I guess.

Edit: is that a plastic sim tray? That would be frail as hell!

Yep, shameful from LG haha - you'd think a phone that cost £400+ upon release would actually include a metal sim tray...

I've never seen a plastic one, given their design I thought steel/ally trays were the norm. Hell even my ancient Oppo Find 5 has a steel one. Good luck sorting yours out. Do let us know how it all goes.

Took it into the shop and they're replacing it for me on Tuesday - they ordered in another A grade one *Bonus is it's unlocked, as mine was locked to O2" and all I've gotta do is take my phone in on Tuesday and they'll swap it. Unexpected result!

No matter what they say, they're going to try and shaft you in some way. Why anyone in their right mind would buy anything from that dodgy shower of ***** is beyond me.

Doubt they'd go to the effort of spending 20 odd minutes on the phone to somebody at another store to get another G6 sent over, but never know lol. But yeah I agree, only really wanted another G6, can't get another phone in that price range that's just as good imo

I doubt Cex would honour anything right up to 24 months. I've bought hard drives and ram and all sorts from them and the way they chuck them around and never put them in anti static bags yet always boast about 24 months warranty at the checkout. Haha.

I actually managed to get them to replace a hard drive when the software I used considered it to be bad and I didn't want to risk any of my data on it even though their test showed it as good, so there is a chance that they will respect the warranty even if they wouldn't replace it under the conditions it was at at the time.

Last time I bought anything at CEX I bunged the receipt in my wallet... It was blank by the end of the week. They have some amazing disappearing ink in those printers* :p

I imagine it would be hard to use a blank bit of paper as proof of purchase...

* I'm aware it's thermal paper

I'll post back on Tuesday once I pick up the phone (if they let me), but after reading a few of the comments on here I guess I should possibly expect something to go wrong haha.

I get on quite well with a few of the people in there & the manager also, as I sell to them quite a lot and often have a good chat with them so I dunno if it's actually helped with getting it replaced (The manager was the one that decided it was enough of a problem to get it replaced - I made sure to mention that LG cover the sim card issue under their warranty as it's quite a common issue).

But yeah - I'll post back on Tuesday to let you know how it goes!

Excellent result! I admit I am quite surprised tbh. You've got a new bit of kit coming your way so great stuff!

I admit I've never been screwed by them and I've been using my local branch on and off for selling stuff ever since they first came abouts in the mid 90's.

Thing that surprised me the most is they seemed to actively go out of their way to help me; they phoned around a few different stores to see if they'd be willing to send them a Grade A G6 in exchange for one of their phones instead of sending it off for repair as they said it can take upwards of 2 weeks. In the end they actually ordered in an unlocked Grade A G6 which is a result seeing as mine's locked to O2 and for whatever reason, I couldn't unlock mine (Seems O2 have done their best to make sure it can't be unlocked in any way except without paying them directly)

I bought a 2nd hand CPU, it was dead on arrival. Took it to the local branch, they didn't have a motherboard to test it on. So they gave me a full refund. Sometimes they give good service

That's not good service. Good service would've been you buying a working CPU in the first place. Did they reimburse you the cost of travelling to your local branch, i.e. bus fare/petrol/taxi fare and car-park charges if applicable?

I suppose so, I hadn't thought about it like that. Perhaps my expectations were very low because of cex's bad reputation.
So yes it could have been better but at least they honoured their terms of sale, which are there because buying second hand has some inherent risks .
