Hi guys, so i've had my 996 turbo listed on ebay for a bit. I've been offered an 08 RS4 saloon with 110,000 miles on as a part ex (i'm asking for £30,000 for mine). The guy has said he's been offered 11-14k on trade in (webuyanycar say £11k). We've not agreed on anything yet, what would be a fair amount for me to say his car is worth, £12.5k? Or should i say not worth it, i'm looking at going for something like an m4 so i would be part-exing it pretty quickly. for reference here is his car.

Cheers

If webuyanycar want 11k, then I'd offer 11k. He can then choose the trade the car in to them and give you the money, or you know you can take it straight to them and get that money yourself. That's assuming you don't actually need the car at the moment...

At the moment i' borrowing my mum and dads old A class. So i don't need a car, really it would be doing him a favour more than me if that makes sense. I just don't want to offend or scare him off. Or do i be a bit more generous and say no to haggling on my car?

Would air on the side of caution and say money talks and anything else walks. If he has been offered 11k on WBAC he should scrub himself of that and have the cash from this upfront or no sale. Who's to say if you agreed to take on the car and contact WBAC that they won't offer you less? You'd be out of pocket.

You have the bargaining chip as you are the one selling the 996t, not the buyer. Offering a car as part payment with no guaranteed value is not worth the risk IMO.

Unless the car is very nearly new, WBAC will knock that valuation right down upon physical inspection.

What you need to do is have it inspected by them first then get an agreed value from them.

Personally there's no way I'd take P/X in.

I'd have no part in this, you would just be putting all the risk on yourself (as mentioned if you are getting £11k quoted online from WBAC chances are when you turn up it will be £10k following inspection, especially as more time will have passed, and the number of owners increased). Get him to sell the car if he is confident it is worth that much.

Unless it's a car you actually want then really really dont bother. You're not a trader, so dont let him treat you like one.

WBAC will insist you own the car for at least 3 months before they'll buy it from you.

Glad you’ve told the other party to get stuffed! A private part exchange seems like a terrible idea to me!

Have you had much interest in the 996T? Perhaps not if you’re asking about part ex deals?

I had a guy lined up, but hes not answered any messages since last tuesday. Ive had 4 other people enqiuire but i was holding it for this other guy. I'm just exploring other options if this other guy falls through (which seems likely). Heres the ad.
