Who's ditching 1080 for 2080? (11 series ) ?

The sensible part of me would wait for the 1180Ti, but that never prevails! I think the 1180 will do a great job for my 4k TV as I enjoy couch gaming, so I'll be looking to order an aftermarket 1180.

yeah i think the 1180ti will be the 1st card to come out which is the no brainer 4k card which you can just put any game onto ultra and expect to get a steady 4k/60... a bit like the 980 (or perhaps 980ti) is to 1080p....... but that is gonna be another 12 months out from now imo :(

AS soon as i can get a nice well binned aftermarket cooler 1180 i will bite... if i dont crack and get an end of life 1080ti

Yup, it's possible they'll even wait for 7nm for the Ti, would make sense.

I'd be very surprised if that was the case especially when the Titan V is 12nm. All previous recently high end Ti cards are on the same fab size as the Non-Ti counterparts.

The biggest delay from what I've seen for the new cards is GDDR6 which is only just going into full production. It will be around August for release I'd guess and the prices will be likely high, not least because of the current prices but also because GDDR6 is more expensive and will remain so for quite a while.

Either there will be no TI, as 7nm is pretty near or the Ti will arrive pretty fast this time. Nvidias 7nm should launch latest in the beginning of 2020. For a chip to be worth it's development cost, it needs to be 1 year on the market, which makes Q1 19 the latest timeframe for a Ti.

A Ti early on 7nm won't happen. I bet the 7nm series starts with a total new series, probably 1280 series if 1180 is right now.

Unless you go for a 8GB 580 with a 3440x1440 Freesync panel :p

Lol that's true, if not maybe a bit more expensive.

Imo a 1070/980Ti suits 2k Ultrawide much better than a 1060. But I guess if ultra isn't a must the 1060 can have pretty decent performance at 3440x1440.

Yep, I gave things quite a good test with my GTX 980 before I sold it. It was overclocked to 1531/8000 but it managed really well with my U3417W. Brilliant experience playing GTAV with a mix of high and ultra settings.

Going back to the original topic I'll be keeping my 1080. I'm not convinced the next generation will realistically offer much over the current generation. I believe Nvidia will delay a true 4K powerhouse for as long as possible.

Knowing Nvidia the 7nm cards will be a completely different range with a trickle feed of ultra expensive Titans before we see anything mainstream.

It usually arrives 8-9 months after the release of the Non-Ti card which is fast enough for many who shelled out top wack for the Non-Ti card at release...

Same but I cracked! By my estimates it'll be March 2019 before we see the Ti.

I’ve got a 1080 that I only got in August so I can hold out another 12 months. Just wish I would have gone for a Ti back in August as my 1080 cost £480 and I could have got a good Ti for £650.

I doubt it. You can't just put a chip designed for 16/12nm on a smaller process, it involves heavy engineering and lots of re-design. Woudln't be worth it for only the top end..

There may not be a Ti though, or the release schedule might be squeezed. Or merely the Tio will have a very short life as top dog. We also already have the TitanV , so maybe the Ampere Ti will be released sooner.

Why is there still no news on these new cards?! :'(

Any guesses when we think they could be announced?

Because it's too early. Rumours are tending to a Q3 release at the moment. Nowadays there aren't many leaks. You start to hear more news, when partners start mass production. So from June on we can hope to get some news.

They need to hurry up and get the new cards out. Feels like it has been ages we have had Pascal. Give us something new already...
