I work as a doorman so am used to disgusting and vile things being said to me but tonight for the first time in a long time I am genuinely shocked.

When asking a group of children's hospice staff to leave the premises as we where closed and the staff needed to lock up and I had to get home to my 6 month old I was told "Well, I hope you child needs to use our service one day"

I'm not easily shocked but this has genuinely made me rage, unfortunately I don't have the woman's name but I know which hospice she works at. I mean I get people need to let off steam and that alcohol can often bring out the worst in people but for someone who actually works at a childrens hospice making comments like that is sickening.

I know I'm probably over reacting but this has really gotten under my skin.

You're right pal, after 18 years doing the job as well but this really did get under my skin.

I think there are two key questions to ask yourself when someone says something nasty to you:

1) Can this person cause me harm?
2) Is this person important enough to me for me to care about their words?

If the answer is "no" to both, the noises they make are irrelevant.

It's easier said than done, but it they speak with the intention of upsetting you and you are upset then they have won.

Rick has the answer:

Find out the hospice they work at, go in and tell their managers what they said.

See if their employer is impressed by their sentiment.

In normal circumstances, I'd say don't be bothered by someone else's words, but the context of this changes things a lot.

Not only is it horrible, it's really weird and bizarre and I can't imagine they're gonna be giving top notch care to the unfortunate patients at the hospice.

I've had death wished upon me and the hope my kids get raped and/or cancer.

At the end of the day, it's just sound coming out of some low-life's mouth and irrelevant to my well-being, they're just trying to get a rise out of you.

I know it wasn't said in this context, but it could be taken as a threat towards your child. Do you have CCTV footage, if so find out who she is and make an official complaint to her place of work. **** her life up.

Probably just drunken mouthing off but it makes me question if she’s actually fit to work with kids

Being this eager to escalate is how wars start. It is a disgusting thing to say, but so obviously not a threat to his child. Chill your beans.

Alcohol isn't an excuse, if someone says a sentence like that, it's a reflection of their thought processes.

Report it to their employer. Actions have consequences. Being British and drunk isn't the carte blanche most people think it is.

It isn't acceptable, report this to their employer.
But also don't take the comment to heart, they're just another drunk idiot.

Depends, if you retaliate with such disproportionate force that the opposition is destroyed before they can defend themselves or respond, then its more a massacre than a war. In some cases that's justified, this is not one of those cases.

Iirc OP has a had a lot of issues around his kids and custody etc. so understandable he is overprotective/oversensitive about them, don't take it personally, a lot of people are **** and the things they say reflect on them, not you.

However, I'd report it to the hospice, as others have said it's not the kind of thing you expect to hear from someone who supposedly cares for children, I certainly wouldn't trust someone with a nasty streak like that around mine! I wonder what kind of things she's saying to the kids in her care when no-one else is around...?
