Not discriminating is discrimination

I can kind of see what they are implying but at the same time its kind of ridiculous.

If it is so important to these religions then maybe that needs to be worked into and possibly partly funded by those religions as part of the coroner's services.

Would a similar example be schools not discriminating between children of different religions when it comes to food? ''Today is bacon day for all!'

So by not discriminating they would be discriminating. Although obviously the case you links isn't quite as cut and dry as that.

Well the new rule should have an option for anyone (regardless of religion) to be able to request to be on the fast track queue as a result of their personal beliefs. If they're not discriminating then they can attempt to fast track Muslim and Jewish burials but should also fast track anyone else who asks for it too... ergo if say 60% of cases end up in the fast track queue then they still might have delays.

Its not at all similiar Jews and Muslims were not being forced to have a service that was uncessarily against their respective religions (like only offering pork products to eat) they were just being told they would be receiving preferential treatment just because of some fantastical, mythical beliefs they hold.

Frankly this decision is, I my view, an absolute disgrace and is yet another legal decision in year already littered with poor illiberal decisions made by our judiciary.

The west is collapsing into a tragic state where equality of treatment by the law won't exist (even as an ideal if not always in reality) and we will have replaced it with an caste system in all but name where you ethnicity, gender or fantastical mythical beliefs will be the determining factors of your position in society and the treatment your can officially expect to receive as a result.

I heard about this case a while ago. It's bang out of order that the emotional needs of my relatives are put behind the emotional needs of another person's relatives simply because they believe in a made up sky pixie.

I was brought up to be tolerant and accepting but I've had enough of this sort of thing now.

They just need to make sure that non-religious people can jump the queue too if they have a valid reason. I'm sure most people don't really have any urgent need for a burial.

I thought you were all in favour of differing treatment based on group identity vs individual need and circumstances?

I can understand the fact that religious people have reasons to want to burry their dead as soon as possible. I wouldn't be fussed and wouldn't mind letting them go ahead of one of my loved ones but should someone have a problem with that for whatever reason they should be entitled to also jump ahead. That way you're still being respectful of peoples beliefs and customs, but should you have a problem with it you'd also be entitled to the same treatment.

Religion is a lifestyle choice and certain religions shouldn't take precedent over others (or irreligion). It should be a 16+ or an 18+ activity and placed in the same basket as playing the lottery, joining the army, being able to vote, getting married, drinking alcohol and taking driving lessons. They're all 16+ / 18+ activities and require responsibility.

This actually sounds like a fantastic idea.
