New Car - Good Deal?

Free home invasion burglary with every purchase. ;)
The sales guy told me in the last two years he's personally sold 18 Rs, and 14 have bee stolen. If true it's pretty off putting. And I'm assuming most of them will be home invasion too.

I kind of done the same thing 18 months ago

When my RX8 engine died I bought a brand new ford focus ST3 for 24k, I have no regrets apart from I wished I paid the extra money and bought the RS as it looks to keep it secondhand value far better..

They don’t hold well at all. I got rid of my RS after 6 months as I just didn’t like it. Was fine on test drive but annoyed me daily. I lost 7k. It dropped like a stone compared to every comment about it being a value holder. They may go up once the last is sold but their reputation was trashed with the gasket issues. I have a recall letter on my desk that arrived 4 months after sale for it to go in for work.

ST3 much smarter buy and I probably would have kept that and saved a packet!

Wow, that's pretty serious theft and the salesman told you this why?!

Does seem like something a Salesman WOULDN'T tell you! 'Lovely car, your house will be broken into and your family threatened within 18 months. Would you like GAP insurance and paint protection as well?'

I've sold over 1000 cars. no one has ever let me know that their car was stolen... I'll let you draw your own conclusions.

Goksly was planning on buying a GTI, so the salesman probably dropped that story about the R to reinforce the perception that the GTI was the better purchase.

All psychology, these guys are pros ;)

Not saying I believe him (figure does seem high)... But if youre a new car sales man and someone gets their car stolen - surely you would find out when an order comes in for the new car to replace it?!

Anywho as I said thanks for the advice - I've cancelled and will look at the nearly new market.

Had a £250 bill (fuel pump) followed by £2500 (oil pump, water pump, brakes, suspension brushes) and then £500 (suspension springs) all in the last 12 months. Extended warranty has coccove large portions but next year it won't be available due to mileage. Days are numbered before the next big bill drops.

With part ex it's closer to 20 than 30... But yeah lot of cash but I want a nice car and no nasty bills and costs. GTR would be amazing... But I can't just magic £10k and I can't afford the parts or servicing as a ongoing cost!
Slight sidestep from the new car debate, but if you've spent this amount of money recently on largely consumable parts, I don't see what the issue is too much?

To put it across similarly, I've been scouring for lease deals / nearly new purchases to get myself into something new and shiny again. Nothing is majorly wrong with my 2006 Civic, but it feels like it's getting a bit tired. Anyway, I've just got it my go-to garage for some work to be quoted, full service, suspension bushes all round, drop links, new brakes etc, and it will feel like a new(er) car again. Only other thing I might have to payout for in the future is a new clutch. This all comes in far, far cheaper than £30k...

But how long do you keep a car on life support for? I'm well aware it would be cheaper. But after spending almost £3k this year I've still got my 6 year old, 80k miles citroen. What about next year... Maybe spend half that. Still got the same car. Etc etc.

I'm well aware of the extra cost. I wanted to see if the deal was too good to refuse. Turns out it's a standard deal available from the internet. Case closed and ilI start looking at other sites for better indications :)

how would he know - unless he's supplying the criminals with the home address of the purchasers!?!?!:eek:

It's 6 years old, not 16. What makes you think it's going to need 3k spent on it every year?
