We aren't due to move in till August but trying to find broadband options.
Some of the already occupied houses have openreach boxes fitted. And a lady I've spoken to says the have fibre to premises with bt.
Is there a way to contact openreach to enquire? Used there post code checker and it says not available.

just use the address of the existing places.
not that you can do anything untill you have the key anyway. so pointless contacting them.

If it says not available on the openreach site, it's most probably true. We took it for granted when we moved into a new build less than 3 miles from Manchester city centre that we would have decent broadband or fibre. It turned out that we had less than 2mbps.

Check if the http://dslchecker.bt.com has any details? Go by address rather than phone number.

FTTP won't be on their standard checkers. Best way to find out is to ring BT sales team and ask to be put through to the FTTP team. They can confirm if the address is FTTP ready.

My last house had the same thing. Didn't even know I had FTTP for two years :/

FTTP shows up on the BT Dsl checker and on the Openreach 'when can I get fibre?' checker too.

I had an absolute nightmare getting broadband to my self build, i ended up with 6 failed orders with BT and ended up having to get a case manager assigned to me who had to manually schedule and orderd it for me :(

I was annoyed that for me there was no option at all for FTTP even though they were running new cable to my new telegraph pole they would only run copper. I know they only run a new line back so far to the nearest bundle on one of the poles but for me that was half way back to the green BT box so it'd have been hardly any extra effort or cost to run fiber :(

I notified sky of my move 6 months prior to moving into our new built. It's been 2.5 years since we moved, and I still don't have an Openreach line into the property. I waited for 3 months without internet, before a Virgin technician knocked on my door and asked if I wanted internet. Next week all was up and running.

Only downside is I have no leverage to negotiate my contract with them, as they are my sole supplier.

I had a nightmare when I moved in two years ago... originally my address weren't on there. SO I used the same post code but house opposite. Excellent.. 72mb.

Moved in and it was 6mb.... FTTP was also available within the new estate. Nope not for us.

18 months after move in date I was finally rocking 300mb. It was a painful 18 months.

TL;DR You won't know for certain until you move in.

For new buld properties. a lot of the onus is on the developer. Not Openreach. For new sites espically for FTTP. Its down to the developer to dig and lay the ducting that openreach will then get the fibers installed to. The main issue is lack of communication from developer to the openreach "newsites" manager. a lot of the time they dont communicate to say a property is "finished" so openreach then don't install the ONT to the property.

If the sale is 100% confirmed then get on the phone and get the process started as FTTP services are normally a 2 stage process rather than 1 stage. It varies area to area.

Two guys i work with who moved into new builds in two different really nice new areas in town both have crap internet, with me spending most of my time using the pc think i would rather still live in a scruffier area haha

Openreach generally tell developers if they want Fibre they need to install it themselves. I've heard Openreach saying we want to run telegraph poles for ease of install and access and if the developers say no Openreach will literally drop the cabling and equipment off and leave the builders to install all the underground wiring. Only then when an order is placed will Openreach check for a line to the estate and often find there isn't one and start the process that can take weeks due to dig work, casing and then wiring. Until Openreach are forced into fibre to the premises for all new builds they cheap out and either run copper or expect the builders to pay for it.

I've just moved into a new build and had no issues at all. The FTTP was all installed including the modem before I completed. I didn't even realise it was going in until I saw it. Rang up BT and was up and running on their BT Ininity within a matter of days.

They seem to be putting cabling in the ground and into the houses. All the sold houses are showing as bt Ultrafast fibre to premises and a few I've spoke to on the development have it.
The showhouse has it installed.
