Morning. I been driving a Civic ep2 Sport for the last 5 years. We have a small person arriving in the next few weeks so its time for something bigger. Funds are very tight so my budget is about £1500. I just need something big a safe enough to get us around.

I seen a Vectra VVT Sri 07 plate for £1500 with 60k that looks and sounds OK. Not set on buying it Im just looking for some feed back. Anyone have any recommendations on anything else? Thanks

Was thinking that but I cant see us having a good time with baby seats and the rest in a 3 door?

If your budget is tight keep the civic. I was in the position a few years ago in that I had a cheap run around and wanted something safer for baby. I ended up going down the leasing route to minimise my lump sum as I could afford the monthlies. My run around was an old Micra which I wasnt too comfortable with!

In your situation I would keep the Civic and invest in a good baby seat base which allows you to just drop in the baby seat so no faffing with seatbelts. Even better if the back seat has isofix?

If funds are tight I would invest in things for the baby as they can be really expensive!

Is your budget including the value of the civic?? Having a 3 door civic would be a pain with car seat etc, but it can be done. If money is that tight i would stay with the civic.

£1500 doesn't buy much these days, I think the scrappage scheme a few years ago got rid of lots of reasonable cars and now all that's left (apart from the odd gem) is rubbish.

07 plate on 60k suggests lots of short journeys = lots of wear.

Ep2 civic with 2 kids here. As earlier mentioned keep it as it will be hard to find anything better gor this price. Good fn 4d civic will cost much higher.

You can still pick up cheap cars, you just have to go in with a bit of research and not be too picky. For eg, i just picked up a Merc C180k 56 reg for £1500, with less than 100k miles, not the most fasionable car, but a decent family chariot, and its old enough for bits to be cheapish on it when it goes wrong.

I agree you can still pick up some half decent cars, i managed to get an Lexus IS200 for £1600 with full service history and 88K on the clock at the time. It was only a stop gap 18 months ago and have been very reliable in that time and now looking to replace in the next few months.

Fair point, I guess it depends on what your needs are. Thinking about it I was actually looking at cars for <£1000 when I came to my conclusion.

Thanks for the replies. Iv managed to up my budget to a max of £3000 so is there anything in this price bracket that can be recommended. Thanks

If you want something sporty with decent performance while having enough room for a kid with a big boot then a good Mondeo ST220 can be had for 3k.
If performance is not an issue then just a petrol mk4 2008 Mondeo or 2008 5 door Focus will do for 3k

Im mostly looking for something economical, safe and reliable. I would imagine the ST220 is not very economical? Good performance is important just further down the list

Purchased my fn shape civic January last year for £1450. No need to raise your budget to 3k at all. The bodywork was a bit messy but it had one owner and full service history. I've done around 20k in it now and it's been fine. Don't be scared about high mileage.
