Hey,

My new ISP is SKY, I know I know, not the most popular ISP but hey-ho..

The issue im having is when playing CS GO etc..around 8-9pm most nights it drops once or twice..

Anyone have any idea what this could be, im gonna phone SKY I think as its annoying when needing a reliable connection at the critical times !! :(

Cheers.

Can't help but when we were with sky a few years ago ours always seemed to disappear around midnight.

Never got to the bottom of it but hasn't happened with the last two isps we've been with since.

How are you connected to the router?

Can you ping the router when you get this drop?
Can you ping 1.1.1.1 when you get this drop?

Im connected directly via Ethernet, and no I haven't tried the pinging bleed, I will try this next time I see it drop.

If you open up a CMD window.

type..

ipconfig /all

hit enter

Whatever it says for 'Default Gateway', that's what you want to be pinging (that's the router IP)

Hi user Name rip the jacker,
I am also with Sky Fiber and have noticed that my Internet keeps dropping out, roughly at the same time most nights between 8-9.
This problem started on April 21st after a very bad thunder storm, maybe this is a coincidence

Mine went down last night at about 20:49, when I log into my Modem the WAN up time restarts.

I was using a Netgear D7800 Modem and now using a Sky Q Modem and it still does it.
I am in the Poole area.

FTTC is largely FTTC whoever you get it from in the UK mainland, Sky are arguably one of the better providers - they actually stood up for users against speculative prosecutions and even after exhausting legal options provided everyone affected with a textbook defence, unlike other providers who just caved as soon as possible. The hardware restriction (though easily worked around) is a minor annoyance, but commercially it makes a lot of sense.

If you have a fault, log it with Sky, if it needs further investigation and escalation then they have a process to follow that’s (almost) identical to every other FTTC provider, we even have the odd (semi) tame Sky staff member lurking about who has been known to offer guidance as required. From memory one of you only started having the issue following a thunder storm for starters. The odds of it being a national issue are remote, the odds of it randomly affecting both of you and you magically finding each other like star crossed lovers on OCUK are equally remote. With a large enough audience, you can always find someone else with a similar sounding issue.

Phoned SKY. Apparently the line is fine. The issue was the "un-capped" speed, and has been brought down a touch, and should resolve the issue, if it persists to get back in touch..
