Whatsapp group chat - SJW's strike again

I went to the university in question and knew a couple of people who had racist views- well educated people who ought to have known better. However, they did a good job of hiding it (for the most part). There will be many more like them out there, unfortunately, and some will undoubtedly come to occupy positions of authority.

There's always banter, but racism definitely still exists, it's just often well hidden. In some ways this is more worrying, as you don't know where it's lying.

Don't worry the Thought Police will be coming to root them out soon. Either that or the Witchfinder General.

And this matters?
Perhaps go say such things to your HR team at work and see if they care.
Again this was not a private chat group like all off you assume.
It was an unofficial law group at uni,why would you post such stuff to that, when the world is filled with people who just love to do exactly this.

The group is called Dodgy Blokes Soc, doubt its an unofficial law students group.

It's is obviously a private group set up by "lads" for "bants" etc... Taking stuff like that out of context from a private chat (as cringy/"edgy" as some of the comments were) and then using it as a reason to destroy their future careers is a bit drastic.

It isn't like this was stuff posted openly on social media, public groups etc.. well until one member of the group decided to post screen shots.

Someone like Frankie Boyle manages to be edgy and funny without being racist...

Racist....maybe not. However there are a whole host of other comments and jokes that he has made that have upset the SJW brigade.

The comments these guys made were crude. It is impossible comment on these particular guys without seeing the whole picture however as a general rule society needs to get it out of its head that throwaway racist comments always equate to racism. It doesn't

The sort of comment that betrays a slightly less 'banter' excused undertone though is where they talk about another student calling him a 'stupid little arse licking ****'. That's where you start to straddle the line from just a bit of banter to coming across as being a racist.
He isn't really helping himself with the "arse lick" part is he?

Any future employers are going to love him. What company doesn’t want staff that can’t be trusted with conversations held in confidence?
This is nothing like a member of staff being trusted with confidential information.

Most employers would rather someone blew the whistle in a situation like this. Any "proper" employer would take such a matter pretty seriously and they would likely lose their jobs.

This is incredibly common, especially amongst student lawyers who are some of the most arrogant and obnoxious people on the planet. However they shouldn't be kicked out of uni for this.

Lol at the unknowing hypocrisy in insisting, "Their comments should be protected by freedom of speech. That grass shouldn't be free to speak about them."

I'm going to assume it is a private chat group and not one setup by the uni. That fact is important.

The views expressed are unpleasant but most likely just banter between friends. If they were contained only in private and not publicly then this is akin to thought police. Hello 1984. The guy was a snitch. If he truly had courage he should have challenged them on it first and asked them to keep their views in check instead of crying to the uni.

It also shows how there is an agenda at uni now to control and change people's personal thoughts and language. That's not acceptable.

As I said, I don't agree with the language used but it is likely to be banter. Aprivate chat is just that and there is no indication these people acted like it in public.

However much I don't like the language, the snitch and the uni are wrong on this matter.

Is definitely a tough one.
These people are probably nasty little xxxxs but do they deserve to be ruined for life?
Is this between a few friends or enough people to be 'public'
They shouldn't have been so stupid to say these things in writing
The uni had no option but to expel. Just like retailers having to apologise for anything remotely like this.

For me is a scary president. Nothing written is safe. I know this, but it's slowly filtering down into removal of free speech.

How long before Alexa records a dodgy conversation and you come in to work the next day to find yourself sacked?

Getting kicked out of uni for this is a bit extreme. There is definitely something about that guy that I don't like. He should either have just left or had a conversation with them. It was a poor attempt at humour in a private group, it doesn't mean that it is their core belief. I wonder whether they will appeal.

So if it's not racist, and they can say what they want, the uni can kick them out if they want as well. What's the problem?

They said some crap in a group, one of the members of that group was offended and decided to report them.
I dont see the issue.

Exeter University student Arsalan Motavali is talking about the WhatsApp group he was in with fellow members of the university's law society.
Set up for people on the course, so yes an unofficial group for a select group of people.
So yes they should have expected exactly what they got.

University just like the work place will of codes of practice. You do not put such things on anything even remotely related to uni/work.

where has that claim be made?

well unsurprisingly lots of uni friends will be from the same course, it is still a private group chat among and not something that say law students are obliged to or even invited to join nor does it have a direct link to the university (they'd likely get in similar trouble if they'd posted this stuff openly on their individual Facebook accounts and it was reported)... but rather something a group of young men set up themselves - the name "dodgy blokes" says it all really

Uversity just like the work place will of codes of practice.

Employees are paid for their time and knowledge at the work place. Students pay to be at university. They are the customer.

Within the next 30 to 50 years I expect universities to disappear as they simply aren't fit for purpose anymore.
