Ebay Issues: Buyer finding fault with condition of item....wants refund

Then the items are not fit for purpose. You buy trainers to wear, telling a buyer that by wearing them he has caused the damage is admitting they cannot be used for their intended purpose.
Collecting trainers is very common and people often buy them and don't wear them.

These are quite rare and collectable so slightly surprised to hear that he was putting them on.... especially going by his ebay name. Thats said its equally possible he put them straight on and went out in them.

Will get him to supply better pics and find out to what extent he has worn them.....also see if can assess if he is a trader.

I think the question here is, were they sold to be worn or to be collected.

Given they are £45 trainers, I know which I would pick.

The damage just looks too extreme for a quick wear, if the red part was that flaky you'd have expected it to drop off just through handling? My guess is he's probably trying to scam you with his old trainers that he's aggressively cleaned.

Buyer sounds like a moron, when he messed you around you should have just closed sale and moved on and told him to do one.

Can't stand idiots like that.... what was his feedback level?

This picture in particular.....very extreme

Also if these trainers were collectable, why would you wear them? methinks buyer is trying it on.... how much did they sell for? he's basically trying to drive down price to get himself a bargain.

I've had to deal with this multiple times, incidentally when selling old trainers. I think people know exactly what they are doing because of the nature of the item so all you can do is offer a refund on return of the item, usually in my experience they go silent and keep it. Combined with the extortionate fees I avoid ebay like the plague now

Also this may be bit tinfoil hat but considering all scenarios.... he possibly did the damage himself and plans to repaint them/resell (if they are indeed a collectors pair)? cause I mean that's a simple task really find red paint of proper type and fix it up.

Wow thanks for all the replies everyone

Buyer initially asked what was cheapest I would sell them for but I only gave him a slight discount from my asking price.......he did message me after I sent them saying that he would be in contact once hes "checked them over". From then was expecting then he may be up to something.

The worst outcome is he returns me his old trainers!:)

Thanks looks like that looks possible....he could be looking to paint them infrared in the airmax 90 style.

A quick search on ebay sees all manner of restoration videos...interesting

I'm thinking the way forward is to offer buyer full refund after return and inspection

Depends how much money you'd be losing, but that would be the best way if you are indeed going to lose out to a large degree...

Surely if they are indeed extremely rare and collectable then they should be more than £45, I bought a pair of Air Max last week and they were over £100.

I would ask him to return them for a full refund.
