Bin too heavy

Yes this is a thing.

We have rently had our bin sizes shrunk here in North Bristol to about half the original volume. Today our bin was deemed too heavy to collect despite being far lighter than any full sized bin we have ever put out. Good value for my 6% rise in council tax this year.

TLDR: bin men are weaker than my 5 ft 3 wife who put the bin out this morning so couldn't empty it.

Sorry, end of rant.

Yeah but I bet your wife can't fling those bins on to the back of a rubbish truck and simultaneously dispense of half your rubbish all over the pavement.

How small are the bins now?

They shrunk ours down to a 2-bag size when we were living in Bristol (Fishponds) about 6 or 7 years ago.

Don't the bins get hooked onto the trucks anyway - no actual lifting

Clearly it was too much for them to get moved to the truck lifting arm thing. Lazy gits.

We got a smarmy letter from the council lambasting local residents for not using the correct wheely bins for certain items. Thing is, we only have one and they council got all shirty when this was pointed out to them. :D

I remember a time when bin men actually used to work for a living. They used to walk down the backs, opening gates and manually carrying whatever bin you had to the wagon before returning and leaving a black bin bag through the handle on the lid. Used to hate putting those things though, especially if it had rained.

lol really I can fit 5 full bin bags in our bin 7 if I jump on it and they still take it away ..
get on your stand and shout

You do realise it's got nothing to do with the bin men being lazy. But what the council sets out, mainly to keep costs down.

My bins have been solid lately, I've been ramming them throwing away stuff for a house move. Binmen still take them, I even put 3 sacks next to it last week and they took those and the bin.

Work effort I suppose. I have good ones and you have crap ones.

Our bin men are awesome, if we forget to put the bin out (happens every now and then) they will happy grab it from the side of the house. Likewise will take extra bags. Usually get them a tub of biscuits for christmas which goes down well :)

You're very optimistic. :p

What happens when they increase tax yet cut costs, yep they can increase their wages.
did i say anything about their wages? But that's not really happening anyway. You know Tories have cut funding massively.
no perhaps you know try using that mind rather than being a CT nut on every single little thing.
reducing rubbish, means less cost in every part of the system, especially extremely expensive landfill.

Same, Gedling bin men are awesome.

Back in the day, Bin Men were real Bin Men.

They would come down the drive to the Bins, empty the Bins into large rubber skips which they then carried on their backs back to the wagon.

Householders recognised the hard work that they did and the anti social hours they worked and were grateful for it (Back then they would be all done by 6am None of this clogging up the roads during rush hour that we have today)

The Bin Men would always get a Christmas Box, Typically a crate of Beer and some biscuits/cakes or maybe some packs of cigarettes. Add that up for every house on a round and I dare say Christmas kept the team in Fags and Booze for months :p

I wonder how many Bin Men get Christmas boxes today...:/

My wheelie bin blew over a week after the beast from the east, I wouldn't care but it was full as they didn't empty it a week before because of the snow. They just looked and moved on to the next bin in the street. Complained to the council and told them I had dash cam footage of me putting the bin out in the morning and they very sheepishly sent someone round in one of those caged tipper trucks to empty it the next day. So 10 seconds saved by the bin men not picking my bin up to empty actually cost the council more in time and resources.

I think you just have lazy bin men, mine take the green bin when it's full and weighs a ton.
Green bin is recyclable, they don't really care how much you recycle.
Also the lazy bin men are the ones which take bins when the lids aren't closed or you have extra bags etc. They are paid to leave such bins and put notes on them.

Aye IIRC a lot of the lorries have devices to weigh the bins as they are lifted in order to charge the council (who have specified an average when setting up the contract).
