Electric vehicles 'too quiet'

What nonsense. Have you ever been on the pavement with an EV driving past you? Certainly been many times when I haven't heard it before I have seen it.

When you are done roasting your Sunday chicken you may want to recycle the foil into a hat.

Have you not heard it in a street full of other cars going past and you couldn't specifically pick out that noise, or did you not hear one on an otherwise quiet street? It makes less noise than other cars so if there are cars going all around and the EV car approaches and passes, yes, it's noise will get drowned out very easily. But if there are other car noises then you're already alert to look around for cars before crossing a road.

If you're walking along a road at night with no traffic and you were tempted to cross the road without looking because you couldn't hear anything coming... you'd hear the EV approaching without other cars drowning it out. Same way you can't hear a cyclist above general traffic noise but on a quiet road you can.

I find them very quiet so not surprised to hear of this. Seems very sensible - most people use their ears to identify traffic. Not all roads are quiet enough to hear the stealthy electric cars.

Can we not just put techo-gadget user deaths down to evolution and lower house prices?;)

Wait for the horrible sounding digital exhaust noises to appear on the outside of EVs...

Though some modern petrol engines are almost as quiet at low speeds. Most of it is tyre noise.

Sounds like something from the 16bit era. Imitation engines sounds always sound **** because you can't replicate the sound of combustion digitally.

This is a better way to make your car make more noise :D

That'll work a treat on an electric car.

Definitely worth doing - China has loads of electric cars and scooters, and at city speeds (especially when mixed in with normal traffic) you cannot hear them at all.

Why can't they make these

for car wheels, recycle all that plastic waste for some spokey dokeys

EVs are not silent. Tyres still make noise, blind people, and everyone else, can still hear them.
This is beurocratic bs lobbied by businesses who'd rather keep selling fossil fuels.

Did you actually think before you typed this :)
So the way to keep selling fossil fuels is to make electric cars make a noise :)
