Hi all at present have an msi gtx980ti 6g gfx card I'm using this with a dell s2716 g-sync monitor. The monitor is fine have no intentions at upgrading to 4k for a while. But I want to improve my 1440p gaming . is upfrading to a gtx1080ti a worthwhile choice. ive used my current gtx980ti for some 2 years or more .Would love to hear peoples comments . ty

1080 Ti is a great card but need to remember it's now based on two year old tech. I'd hold out a bit longer if it were me and purchase whatever is a decent chunk faster than the 1080 Ti. Going on history the 1180 will be the early card to buy and "should" be a decent amount faster, even if eventually it becomes more mid-range....but still faster than top end last gen.
Each to their own but I'd prefer to get in on the new tech early than buying top end of last gen when it's soon, relatively, to be superseded. New cards usually come with better efficiency and new features too.

My 1080ti is running better that my 980ti Sli but mainly due to lack of sli support. 1080ti prices seem to be dropping now that people are dropping the mining systems. So you can take the jump from 980 to 1080 ti now, wait for 1080ti prices to drop or wait for next gen. In my experience if you decide to wait there will always be a reason to continue waiting :-)
Andi.

It's was worth the jump at launch and then the prices went up. Now the prices are dropping it's becoming worth it again but the release of the 2080 will make that decision harder again unless the 1080 TI prices keep dropping.

Not sure any drop in price would make it worth it to me, unless stupid drop but that's unlikely :).
Previous poster mentioned about how long to wait (always something better), which I kind of agree with but atm it's more of a no brainer situation to me - wait for next gen. If OP buys an 1180 with 20-30+ improvement in performance over a 1080 Ti, not even counting other improvements, they'll be getting in on the new gen which will likely be current for another 1-2years + again. Also, used prices of current gen will be hammered once 1100 series arrives which is less important for those buying to keep for a few years but still makes more sense to just wait it out at the moment.

Hmm, guess it depends what you can pick up a 1080ti for, I got mine when they first came out and got a good price. I came from two 980ti SLI to a single 1080ti and well worth for me. I have the same monitor as you, to be honest if you have the money would get one because there is always a reason to wait, always going to be something better coming out so maybe see what price you can get.
