BMW recalls 300,000 cars from March 2007 to August 2011

When I had a letter from BMW last year, It stated that it will be inspected and then they'd decide wether a part of it or all of it needed replacing or not.
The service bloke said that they were not inspecting them but rather just replacing it all as a matter of course as pretty much all the ones they inspected needed changing anyway.

Worryingly it eems like it's been a matter of when and not if they will all need replacing as it seems they will fail eventually, just glad mine's been done already.

I called up a couple of months ago about my June 2009 E92 and was told that there were no outstanding "technical campaigns" for it. They avoid using the "r" word because of the legal ramifications that come along with it.

Not really old, but there was an airbag recall on E46's recently and I'm pretty sure that was across the board.

I don't think this amounted to any E46 gatherings, mind you.

They did indeed.

I received my notification for the recall about two months after I’d sold my e46 - I forwarded the recall notice to the guy I sold it to and he replied saying “he wasn’t bothered and wouldn’t be getting it done.”

I had this recall last year. Fuse box behind the glovebox cable.

Many other guys didn’t thought and seemed to be a bit random as similar cars weren’t getting letters and owners were having to go to dealers to ask for the check to be made.

My mate has a 320D Coupe that did this too, however his died overnight on the drive. A quick google diagnosed it as the cable, and he replaced it in his drive. He drives 130 miles a day too so he's lucky.

SI B64 07 17: ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION MEASURES (ATM) For this recall, please use the following alternate transportation measures for those customers who have concerns about driving their affected BMW vehicle while they wait to have this safety-recall completed. • Enhanced Car Rental Procedure

...
Mid to Long-Term Car Rentals Due to the current part supply situation, BMW NA anticipates that some customers may require alternate transportation for thirty (30) days or more. As a result, you may have to submit more than one claim for rental car reimbursement, before your center has the parts necessary to fix an Affected Vehicle.
