Hi All,

I bought this setup back in August:

AMD threadripper 1950x
Asus ROG zenith extreme x399 (latest bios 1003 with updated AGESA Code 1.0.0.5)
Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (4x8GB) PCMD32GX4M4B 3200MHz

Since then i've not been able to boot at the full 3200MHz speed using the default XMP settings. Fastest I can get it to go is 2800MHz.

I checked the compatibility list for the mobo and Corsair Dominator Platinum PCMD32GX4M4A is supported, I have PCMD32GX4M4B. Not sure if this is an issue? This corsair thread suggests it should work on Threadripper boards:

http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=170272

I've tried playing with some basic settings in the bios but tbh, I'm no wiz in that dept! Waited till now in the hope that the latest bios would sort it out but it hasn't.

Any idea if/how I can the RAM to it's rated 3200MHz?

Thanks for taking the time to look at this thread btw, really appreciate it!

Thanks
Sunny

To get it to run you will likely have to raise the soc voltage and memory voltage over stock a little bit. Set default xms profile and raise soc voltage and memory voltage a little and you should be golden. My 1950x will run at 3200 with 8x 8gb (64gb) G-zkill 3466 Trident Z (Samsung B-Die according to Thaiphoon burner). I have spent hour after hour playing with the memory and although the gains are there for 100% guaranteed stability I just tend to run 2933 with tighter timings as it requires much less voltage on the soc. 3200 is perfectly doable though with only 4 banks populated and should be pretty easy.

I'd guess that the ram is this. Being 3200C16, I would assume that it isn't samsung B-die based and more likely samsung E-die, hynix or micron based which might well be more difficult to get working at their rated speed.

My 1920x happily runs an 8 pack 3200C14 kit (8GBx4) at 3200C14 with tight secondary timings. (14-14-14-28-56-256-1T) Requires 1.4V on the ram and 1.125V on SoC. I also manually configured procODT to 60 ohms too as per 8 Pack's suggestions to improve stability.

Samsung E-die looking at that. You'll be hard pressed to get over 2933 i'd imagine.

Thanks Hex

Managed to get it to 2800MHz with 14-14-14-28. Better than before so can't complain. I may upgrade the RAM later down the line, if it's worth doing. Will check some reviews out

Next project is dropping voltages to see where I can maintain stability.

CPU voltage seems to be a complex topic with the ryzen cpu's as the mobo appears to dynamically change it. Has anyone dropped core voltage? How far at stock clocks do you guys recon is reasonable? Thinking going for 1.3

I had a little play with the memory in my machine today, thought I would spend 5 mins to see if I could get 3200 stable across my 8 sticks. No such luck but I did find that 3066 was really easy. I just set xmp @ 3066, upped the voltage to 1.4, load line calibration level 5, memory training on auto. I've not tightened the stock timings but this doesn't look bad:

@sunnyd76 - Might be worth shooting for something similar?
@8 Pack - Do you think I could tighten these timings or shoot for higher speeds with all banks populated? If so what would you suggest? Cheers.

Cheers 8 Pack, Vince.

8 Pack. Yeah it's stable so probably shouldn't play with it but it's more power than I need atm, so trying to cool her down a little

Vince. I managed to drop my voltage for vcore down to 1.27, although it does still move around dynamically. Also dropped dram AB/CD down to 1.3 with 14-14-14-28 and did some load testing. Seems solid so far so will be keeping this i recon. Didn't find the load line settings you mentioned though, will see if I can find those then next time i'm in bios as I've not managed to boot above 2800 yet!!

Ohh thanks for the screenshot, I will try your timings with my memory as they seem much better than mine :)
