Fracking banned immediately in Scotland

Problem is though, that's a slight misrepresentation. Unless you can show that a lack of fracking will cause bills to go up significantly, then all you're actually saying is that people are prepared to accept a risk that their bills might go up by a small amount.

Most people are prepared to accept that, because oil and gas prices go up by small amounts all the time for various reasons we can't control. Adding one extra reason to that list won't seem like a particularly big deal to most people.

Your reply is also a slight misrepresentation. It was a response related to specific comments rather than fracking.

The argument was that we should leave our domestic resources in the ground as insurance for the future, importing more gas (irrespective of fracking). That means a heck of a lot more LNG, which is demonstratably more expensive. It also means an increase in the UKs trade imbalance.

Whether fracking will reduce gas bills in the UK (probably not IMO, even if it is economic) is another argument entirely.

The Scottish government. What an absolute pack of Silly Billies.

Yea, even the Scots seem to be getting pretty fed up of them now. All they've done is bang on about independence and haven't actually achieved anything.

The problem is that we SHOULDN'T, the value of it being untapped is far higher than it's value with being stupidly mishandled like Thatcher did with the North Sea. If the Climate is already ruined (highly likely at this point), it probably doesn't matter.

The cost of increasingly turbulent winters and wet summers is far beyond what we can ever gain from making it worse.

Not a fan of the SNP, i have always thought they seem to forget about us folk down near the border.
As for fracking i would much rather have at least some limited and carefully monitored work that the bazillions of flipping wind turbines that keep popping up everywhere.
Why dont more folk complain about these things blighting the landscape i dont know, they are awful.

Fracking is awfully damaging, pollutes terribly, completely trashes local water sources and even causes mini earthquakes, this has been all widely proven. So banning it is actually quite sensible.

Of course it can do all this, but it can also be done properly with less risks. You can drive a car at 140mph through school playgrounds and cause carnage, or drive at 40mph responsibly on the road and hurt no one.

There's no way it can damage water tables or aquifers if it's at different depths. It's miss management and bad planning and a rampant media that has given it a bad name.

It is going to happen so get used to it.

What exactly is wrong with mini earthquakes btw? What's scarey about a phenomenon that happens naturally once a day on average? Just more fearmongering that people don't understand?

Do any of the local economies gain much from fracking or is it just the energy companies ?
Im sure plenty of palms are greased and envelopes passed under tables when any big oil exploration company moves in.

Infrastructure might be improved to cope with heavy traffic. Local pubs and shops might see a rise in custom from rig crews moving to the area. Etc. Same with opening and large industrial building.

I'm reasonably sure, because of bad press, and constant bs from nimbies, a good percentage of the profits will be used to shut people's faces, drowning them in 50 pound notes.
