Intention to prosecute for speeding (37mph in a 30 zone)

Yea I always wait for the sign now as they love to hide in places like this.

I don't see how it's making traffic safer in the village though. The whole point in speed cameras was to be a deterrent, this isn't a deterrent to not speed in the village. Only the last 20 yards of it...

Looks like it was on a slight decline and so your speed crept up. They love to put cameras at the bottom of hills, to catch out those who don't notice the extra few mph gained.

I also like to wait right up to the sign in a 30 and then nail it up to 60. Really annoys the tail gators that are upset at me doing 30.

.
Average speed cameras are being installed on quite a downhill section of the a55 because over 50% of cars exceed the speed limit apparently :p Should cause all manner of fun with tourists slamming on the brakes when they see them. Shame as its a nice couple of sweeping bends to let momentum take hold..

Thanks for the warning, I drive down here visiting family a fairly regularly during the year. Letting momentum take hold as you roll down that hill when it's quiet (I usually go through past 8pm) has always been a little pleasure on the drive back.

Another one gone. Oh well.

At least I won't get frustrated being behind someone lacking confidence on that last sweep near the bottom.

You were doing 37 as you past a 30mph reminder. You were also doing 35mph past the school sign.

There is a 30mph reminder about 50m before the van

That 50mph sign was irrelevant !

Isn’t it 5% over? So if you were doing 32-33mph you should have been ok.
In Scotland I think it would be 3 points and £100 fine that’s what I was....... twice now

Got my first ever speeding 'intention to prosecute' through the post today (Have been driving for 17 years) asking me to identify the driver of a car doing 37mph in a 30.
You should have sent them the NIP back with a note quoting the rice vs Connoly case.
Even the police have to obey the law, and you have the right to decline their questioning unless you are under arrest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_v_Connolly
NIP's are just requests and self admission of guilt.

I said they've got me bang to rights, I just think that having a speed trap right before it changes from 30mph to 50mph is cheeky

well not really considering you were speeding for the whole of the rest of the clip too, as were likely all the other drivers they caught too...

the reason they've put it there is probably because they can catch you and be tucked out of sight there, and the reason they've got a speed limit of 30 in the bits that you were speeding through is because it is clearly a residential area and you passed a school sign about 18 seconds in...

if you were doing between say 33 and 30 then there is probably a margin of error and it would be a bit harsh, but 37 after having been at circa 35 for the entire approach to that bit and it is fair enough really

FYI if people haven't seen content by this poster before, just keep in mind he's a bit of a conspiracy theorist/freeman of the land type... or at least has posted a bit on legal "woo" in the past - don't pay attention to this sort of "advice":

Yes the NIP is only, as the name says, a notification request and you can ignore it if you wish.

HOWEVER, the requirement to provide driver details, is usually on the same sheet of paper.

Don't forget that sending back your NIP, WITHOUT also sending back driver details is a criminal offence under section 172 Road Traffic Act 1988.

Know someone in an obscure country somewhere? Name them as the driver and send them on a never ending goose chase. Works with private parking tickets at least :D

A lot of the speeding issues occur entering or exiting lower or higher speed zones, which is why you often see saftey vans and police located there, not to make money or try and entrap people, its because a lot of people don't bother slowing up when they enter a lower speed limit or speed up way before the posted higher limit

Guy in Birmingham tried that.

Gave 5 different names and addresses, on 5 different NIP's on different occasions, to couple of different police forces around the country.

Was eventually caught, and jailed for 10 months and banned from driving for 17 more after that.

I'm not sure I understand what the OP is actually asking.

Yes loads of people obviously start speeding up before the end of the 30mph zone, yes loads of people obviously speed in 30mph zones, and no it's not obviously not 'cheeky' to check speeds just before transitions.

How anyone can describe as 'cheeky' someone enforcing the law is a mystery to me, since laws are enforced because doing so is a net benefit to society, otherwise public opinion wouldn't have seen them become laws in the first place. What would be 'cheeky' is people paying taxes to fund the police and the police failing to enforce the law.

We all do it at some point, some of us get caught.
