UK newsstands will sell ‘porn passes’ to verify ages under new laws

Well, this is the most hilarious thing I’ve read in a while.

Last year, Britain approved the Digital Economy Act 2017, which included strict new rules regarding access to pornographic websites. When the law goes into effect later this year, regulators have suggested that users will be able to purchase a so-called “porn pass,” from their local newsstand to verify their age.

Our government are loonies!

I love this bit:

Those who don’t comply risk being blocked by internet service providers, and would face fines of up to £250,000 ($350,000).

To clarify the above is sites who do not comply, but it’s still ludicrous they strong arm those sites with fines.

Perhaps they could bundle a scratch card with the pass on it under the foil bit with an old style jazz mag and put it back on the top shelf for a bit of nostalgia to remind anyone over about 40 how such material was predominately available in their younger years?

I'm already peed enough at the requirement to ask your ISP to remove the adult filter. My landlady pays for the internet and I haven't had the stomach to ask her to call up Sky so I can watch porn. Fortunately some 12 year old kid has made a video on Youtube showing how to get around the Sky filter :D

Are these going to be a one time use thing? Presumably not I guess.

I mean if you can buy them anonymously and use them for as many sites as you like then surely you can also post them online for others to use.

I don't see why there can't just be an opt in system? People with kids could just opt in to filtered internet and everyone else can just be left alone.

Far too reasonable. What do you think these policy makers are, sensible grown ups or something?

Woah Woah Woah.. Are you really expecting parent to actually do some parenting?

Won't everyone just get their porn through Torrents? then again if this is as successful as the attempts to block Torrent sites people won't need to.

Then again it just sounds like an attempt to make money off of porn.
