UK newsstands will sell ‘porn passes’ to verify ages under new laws

So this is to stop under 18's watching it, in the same way that the ban on alcohol for under 18's is in place, most of the time it's down to the retailer to judge the age, if they look under 25 then ask for ID - doesn't really get around the issue of proxy sales now does it.

With that in mind, a 16 year old can drink a pint in a pub if it's with a meal, would the same apply with one of these passes!?

So couples are allowed porn? Or you get a porn pass so long as you buy lube and tissues?

Just a quick word, next time i see you swear it will be a ban, please take the time to read the rules regarding swearing and signatures.

Cheers, I just won't have a signature if it's that much hassle but the other time I think I've sworn on the forums was in a thread this morning where a guy was trying to sell illegal passports and I called him out for it and reported the thread.

Seriously though if this ridiculous law actually happens everyone will just get a VPN

Thxs for making me laugh at work,

Seriously though if this ridiculous law actually happens everyone will just get a VPN

Then they will go after VPNs and probably give them the same treatment despite that it would cause serious problems or inconvenience for people who have an actual need for VPNs or other types of secure tunnelling.

They have been looking for an excuse to get backdoors into VPNs for some time, maybe this is their gateway.....

God i'm starting to sound like a tinfoil hatter.

The laws already require them to keep logs. Which is why they are all based outside of the UK where they are powerless to regulate them...

Same will happen with porn I guess.

I think with the load the government is under now to deliver something they're going to **** up (brexit) any serious, or meaningful legislation against things like porn or VPNs is quite a way off.

As far as attacking VPNs goes, I can see two possible ways they might "have a go"

1> Go after any private/personal VPN companies operating in the UK by shutting them down (essentially pointless, because I can just use one in a different country)
2> Make the use of private/personal VPNs subject to license, so you have to provide a reason why you need one as a private individual.

As far as physically blocking VPNs - that's hard to do, it can be done to some degree with varied effectiveness eg; Netflix are able to detect and block some people using VPNs to access their country specific content, you can also use DDOS protection systems such as Arbor to block things like Tor - but again, that's very expensive, very difficult to get right - and you need lots of people to keep it effective.. Basically - to block VPNs for everyone, on every ISP is pretty much technically impossible right now and will be for some time.

I am guessing the government either has zero competent advisers when it comes to the internet or they just ignore any advise given.

Perhaps they could bundle a scratch card with the pass on it under the foil bit with an old style jazz mag and put it back on the top shelf for a bit of nostalgia to remind anyone over about 40 how such material was predominately available in their younger years?

Make them scratch and sniff

design something to solve a non problem, design it in a way that it affects a massive number of the general population, don't worry if it actually works, you can get creative with the data to show it actually works. as long as when you speak about it on bbc question time the population relate then they will think you are doing something.

i should be pm.

Brings back memories of when me and my friends hired out an adult film from the village film shop, all looking red faced and jittery :o:o
