So, fed up with sky recently always dropping out, ping off 400plus and now 2 days in a row unusable Internet. This is happening more and more frequently.

All I can get on plus net is 10-17mb down

Now my 4g is hitting 45 down and 26 up and 26ping

Landline can't make that even in a good day. If I'm playing a game and the gf is uploading pics our 1 - 2mb up can't cut it.

Looking around this may be our line max.

All I'm tempted to go unlimited 4g. Is this actually viable?

It feels wrong my 4g (and even H+) is so much faster! Tethering to my phone is better for gaming than my Landline

Unless you have a legacy 3 contract I don’t think you’ll get unlimited 4G. Up to 50Gb for between 50p and £1 per Gb per month is about the best you’ll do. Speed will be good but that data cap will be reached quicker than you think. I mix and match between woeful 5Mbps fibre, an EE 4G connection and a Vodafone 4G connection all managed by a pfSense box that balances my usage through rules so I don’t eat all that 4G data too quickly. It’s a compromise for sure but doable.

You could see if there’s a wireless/wimax operator that is available to you perhaps or if latency isn’t an issue for you then there’s always satellite.

Where do you live (roughly) - I assume it's fairly rural if you have no FTTC? How many properties? Any businesses? The option of a Community Fibre Partnership combined with the latest gigabit voucher scheme might be worth exploring. Gigaclear might also be able to help.

The grandfathered contracts you refer to were fully axed last year iirc with new limits imposed, you can get 'always on' data plans, but they specifically exclude tethering... it's not impossible to get round, but that would be a breach of ToS.

For the op, please raise the issue with Sky, your line shouldn't behave like this, get it investigated as it could make a significant difference. 10-17mbit down is capable of pretty much anything required other than streaming UHD 4K, it may not set any speed records, but it should be comfortable for general use. If you don't, you risk the same issue with your new ISP.

I'll have to get in it. I'll tell the gf to give me the details. She won't ring because she's too shy I think. Well she keeps putting it off.

The shared option is a good one. Just use 4g for gaming. And that's all. I pay 10ppm for 5gb. I'll see how long it lasts just for games.
Really is the upload and ping that's a problem.
My plus net 4g is flawless to be honest
I don't play much. I'll have to see how much it uses. It can't be much if its OK on 1mbps (unshared)

Ping is good when it's good, but upload at 1-2mbps is tough even with 2 people.. And this has always been bad

There's a lot of houses up our street. But it is not rural. More likely old wiring and congestion. But we won't be here many more months

She only needs to call and do DPA, after that she can pass the call over and you or anyone else she'd like can deal with it. Upload is what it is, congestion seems unlikely, but honestly get them called and get it sorted, it doesn't matter if it's a day left or 6 months before you move, Sky will deal with a fault. I actually had them book an engineer when I was porting out to BT for after my port out date (long story), they genuinely couldn't have been more helpful and had absolutely nothing to gain from it.

If you know the password on the account anyone can call as long as they know the address, postcode and account holders name. Only exception is if there's no password. Then only AH can access the account using other details.

Thanks
I try and sort it this weekend
