Pro Cycling Discussion 2018

Exciting finish today. David & Goliath  They were all blowing come the end :D

Short stage but given yesterdays being long & tough I'm sure they all felt it.

Might just be me but nice to see Froome interviewed and not hiding post stage.

Great finish that! That last 5km was beautiful and brutal. Yates is going to have to take more time out of dumoulin before and after the time trial. Can see him giving away a good 3 mins or so over that distance unfortunately. But really just looks to be between those two now.

He's terrible commentator, boring as hell droney voice, repeats himself often and quite hard to understand at times.

Carlton Kirby is great, he and Matt Stephens really work well together. Rob Hatch is good for quick kinda crit races (Hammer series springs to mind) and I've always enjoyed David Millar commentating but not sure if for a whole GT he'd run out of content and get boring. Some great insights from him and very few from Sean Kelly...

Kirby is woeful, knows next to nothing and just shouts a lot. Rob Hatch/Declan Quigley are much better.

Rob Hatch is far better agreed!

Yes, well, errrr I've just tuned in to Eurosport for my afternoon moaning about Sean Kelly. And well errr also listening to Kirby repeating the phrase "*insert word here* of pain/hurt"

"Yes, well, the guy in turd place is turty seconds ahead"

"Yes, well, there are teams that are wanting to ride here."

And I swear he says "Michelin Scott". Its MITCHELTON!

That stage today looked awful! Fantastic spring from Bennett. Getting that monkey off his back seems to have worked

"Put the party cake away as one man is having a fry up!"

Think I've heard everything now and wish to renounce my support of Kirby lol

Excellent finish by Bennett, was almost shouting at the TV when he got on the front before the circuit as was thinking 'whats he playing at!'. Amazing commitment so early/far out in the sprint but amazing how well it went and worked with that reduced group. Matej Mahoric looking amazingly strong again, was quite surprised to see him so obviously sit up when they came in to the finish as he has a bit of a sprint.

What do we think about all the sponsorship rumours?

Cervelo to replace Giant at Sunweb.
Giant and Deloitte to replace BMC at BMC.

So future of Dimension Data looks uncertain unless they find another key sponsor (losing bike supplier & a key sponsor being usually pretty terminal for teams). No news/update on future of EF-Drapac-Cannondale (or whatever they're called this week). They've been very prominent in the Giro, hope that helps them continue! Maybe a merger with DD could be on the cards?!

Some good twitter posts: Zardini broken collarbone, Chad Haga is always a great follow (techie!), Thomas De Gendt always good fun, another TDG classic! :D

Dimension Data have an aging team, Cavendish will retire this year I imagine as he’s had a shocker and not getting and younger!

They are lower tier for a win when they turn up to a race and I expect the sponsor feels like they won’t gain anything from continuing sponsorship so I wouldn’t be surprised!

The Sky youngsters are absolutely ripping the peleton apart on the climbs and then launching Egan Bernal in the tour of California, superb performance.

Brutal finish today. Thought Yates was going to make it a hat trick. Not as big gaps as I thought there would be considering how early froome went.

Should make for an interesting day tomorrow now. Shall see how everyone's legs are after that.. Dumoulin did well to pace himself up and give away so little to Yates, still needs another minute and a half in my opinion. But we'll see come the end of Tuesday about what will be needed!
