Intention to prosecute for speeding (37mph in a 30 zone)

I would think you'd get a course. 2 years ago I was offered the course in Yorkshire for 41 in a 30. The course wasn't too irritating and beats having to enter the details of any points whenever you shop around for car insurance in the next 5 years.

How does the camera tell your speed. GPS? If so, in all honesty, you were likely doing 40 or close to 40 indicated on your speedo the whole way through that 30mph zone, so you knew you were speeding.

I'm not really sure what your complaint is :p

That the positioning of the camera is a bit redundant in terms of road safety?
I think he's been quite clear that he's not complaining about being caught, that's his own fault. He's questioning the value of placing the camera right at the end of the 30MPH zone.

Surely, from a safety perspective, it's better to be enforcing people slowing down as they enter the 30MPH zone, rather than speeding up entering the open road of the 50MPH zone.

To me it looks like that police guy probably could have seen quite far up that road.

Regardless, the speed limit signs are there to enforce people to slow down. Where the camera/policeman is situated to record your speed is pretty irrelevant.

This is roughly where the policeman was looking from. He can likely record peoples speed from all the way up that 30mph straight.

I disagree with the OP that he was positioned there just before the 50 to catch people out. He was positioned there because that is where you can see the most amount of that road, and where there was a lay by to safely position the car/speed gun. There is little point him being at the start just after the roundabout as people will still be getting up to speed after it.

This seems like the optimum position for the speed gun guy to be.

30 zones are those I stick to religiously. 60/70 you have a little bit of buffer and roads tend to be safer.

30 zones are usually built up or residential areas, not the place to be speeding.

I said they've got me bang to rights, I just think that having a speed trap right before it changes from 30mph to 50mph is cheeky

you would be livid if you saw the road near me. it's 4 lanes with a barrier in the middle. 2 lanes going either way. long straight stretch leading up to a motorway and it's a 30.

there are trees on one side and the cops park their car round the corner and hide behind the trees.

Typical police tactic unfortunately.

They will sit in just inside the 30 mph area, either at entry or exit, they know most drivers speed up before exiting a 30 mph zone, they also know most drivers typically don't slow down either when entering a 30mph zone.

A12 is bad for this on the single highway to Great Yarmouth. Lots of police vans waiting for drivers to speed.

Speed awareness I think you will get.

maybe visible for 8 seconds, so about 80m at 30mph, so if he had seen it could he have responded to any effect ?
- the policeman could have turned side-on too with his fluoro jacket.

If you were not far behind someone else doing similar speed, then will they just catch the first guy ?

picked a nice spot to catch people out there. going to make a lot of dosh. As that is the only reason for being there before the new speed limit sign.

What's strangest to me is it seems to be an actual copper in a 5 series estate and not a van - thought they'd always come to actually pull you over, not send stuff via the post after
