Any of you guys (and girls) got a Lay-Z-Spa blow up type hot tub?

I’m being co-erced into buying one by the other half and daughter.

I’ve heard they are quite nice reading reviews?

We bought one last year when offers were on for £350. It is great but you need to know what you're getting into also.

It takes 12 hours to heat up from cold, so no "I'll put the hot tub on and we'll get in in an hour" when you get back from work. you need it on at 7am for it to be ready for the evening.

You need to maintain it with chemicals, not a big deal, but you need to dip test it every day or other day and add the chemicals in, about £20 for a box of 4 different items, to add chlorine, PH+ or PH- and an anti algae or anti foam. That way we left the water in it for about 4-5 weeks at a time last year. The manual states changing the water every 2-3 days if not treated.

It takes about 2 hours to fill it up and about the same to drain it also.

Some people just leave the pump on 24/7 at 30 degrees and then just up it to the full 40 for a few hours before you want to use it, but got to factor in electric cost for this. We now put it on Friday morning and leave it on all weekend and use it over the weekend a couple of times.

The only other thing we can now do is we've got a hose adaptor for the kitchen tap and can fill it with hot water so 2 hours gas and not 12 hours electric when first filling it if you want it on sooner when you've just bought it. For us the excitement of buying it was lost having blown it up and set up to then wait a day to use it.

But have to say it's very nice, just put up a retractable awning on the side of the house to cover the tub so can use it longer during the year.

Just read the above and fair play if you can be bothered, I reckon like many others they like the idea of one, get one, use once and then left to die in the corner of the garden. At least the birds get a posh bird bath.

My sister got one for "free" couple of years ago when they had extension built from the company they hired. It's pretty good tbh as long as you got space to keep it somewhere.

We had ours out for about 6 months last year, gave it a wipe over now and then to keep it clean and it's stayed fine, actually very well made to be fair. You have to pack them away before overnight temps drop below 5 degrees to stop it cracking. It's actually got more power then some actual spa places I've been to in fairness.

We have one and it’s great when my back hurts. My wife has fibromyalgia and it helps her lots. It does take ages to heat though but I tend to just leave it running when in use. It adds about £30 a month to the electric bill with it running continuously.

MOST hot tub owners are putting up a thin veneer of respectability.

One in ten UK households now has a sex pond, but only a tiny fraction admit they bought theirs because bubbles get them hot.

43-year-old Tom Logan said: “We got a hot tub because of my bad back. I’ve got a slipped disc or something like that.

“Sometimes I get in it with my wife and she rubs my back for about half an hour, it has a therapeutic effect.

“Occasionally other good-looking couples with bad backs come around, and we rub each other’s aching joints in the moonlight while sipping medicinal champagne.

“You might hear us groaning softly with the sensations of soothing pain relief.

“That’s what happens and don’t let my neighbours tell you any different, they’re just jealous, bitter people.”

Fellow sex pond owner Stephen Malley has a more honest approach: “We get in it and ****. It’s like being a big sexy fish.

“Sometimes the dog jumps in too but we don’t encourage that.”

Love the Daily Mash :p

I could be the OP although I dont have a daughter that I know of.

We have one weekend of hot weather and we must buy a hot tub! Wouldn't mind we are away at the moment with a hot tub!

How many full grown people can you fit in these spas? (Not chopped into bits)

We have a softub that uses £15 worth of electric each month. Totally free for a lot of the year due to having solar panels, but they are much more expensive.

One of my friends got the Monaco last year, I was dubious about it, but was actually really impressed with it, he’s also all over it with the upkeep, chemicals etc.

As previously mentioned, there’s a lot more involved than just filling with water and jumping in, if the on-going upkeep suits then they can be brilliant, for me I know I’m just too lazy!

I know someone with one and they seem very impressed with it, apparently only changes the water once a month due to chemicals, seems to leave the pump/heater running constantly which adds about £35 a month to the electricity bill, only complaint was apparently it's recommended not to be used in temperatures lower than 4°C which means it's stored for most of the winter, apparently you can buy extras or something to keep it running when the outside temperature drops below this though.

the blow up ones are quite small. running costs are high.

i would get one of the larger ones which says suitable for 6 or 8 people. rather than 2-4.

that would be to gauge how much use it gets. then get a proper one out of costco for £5K.
