MKV's on Samsung smart TV

I have a samsung smart TV and it is unable to play MKV's. Will I need to convert the MKV before I can get it to play? If so what format is the best to convert it to

Your TV model should play Mkv files (X264 & x265) fine.

What did you format the drive as?
i.e. fat,fat32,ntfs? etc

Maybe try a different format?As long as the tv can recognise it of course

MKV is a container, not a standardised video format. What codecs are used within the MKV?

Needs to be FAT or FAT 32 I think.

It plays MKV containers fine and NTFS drives. I have a 1Tb drive plugged into mine now..What is the codec of the MKV container? Although i've tried prettyb much every container and codec since the dawn of time and its played them all..

Would be easier if you said which model TV you have (full model name). Mine is from 2016 and plays MKV files fine streaming from my NAS.
