Hello and good afternoon to all.

I currently have a GTX Asus Turbo 1070 and am looking at upgrading to a more powerful card, I currently have a 144hz 1440p Monitor and would like to use it to its fullest in games which currently the 1070 struggles with.

With the GTX 1080TI now going back down in price and various versions available near the original RRP, would it be worth buying one now or risk waiting for the 11 series and they end up being either to expensive or out of stock for ages?

Any thoughts appreciated

Cheers

Has to be worth waiting to see what's around the corner.

I wouldn't be buying a 1080Ti at current prices, they're still more expensive than a year ago.

For example, I remember OCUK selling a non-reference 1080Ti for around £630.

Now if current prices were around £500 it might be worth a punt.

If you can wait then wait, if you can't then get a 1080Ti and enjoy it. Life's too short.

Yeah id go with this, as we don't know when the 11s are coming, they are only rumoured to be July, onwards, and with no one else, its not like they need to release anything yet, plus their Pascals are still flying out.

The top Ti is a bloody good card, love mine

Yh that's why I am thinking of just going with the 1080TI, I can't imagine the 1180 being that much more powerful 10-25% tops. And the 1080ti should be better than the 1170 Id imagine. Should last for a good 2-3 more years.

You could get a Gigabyte G1 1080ti for less than that the day before RX Vega released as I fought the temptation to grab one hoping Vega would deliver, When it didn't 1080ti prices suddenly shot up. :(

It's not just the power, it'll be an improved all round product. After 2 years there will likely be new features. Some are predicting the new cards to work better with lower level API's like DX12 so should in theory stand out in new forthcoming titles. The current range are all based on technology that's been around now for 2 years which is a long time in tech. The next gen GPU's will be faster, more efficient and be improved in other areas and support new features.
Many who buy now IMO will wish the waited, even if we don't see new cards this year, although I'll be surprised if we don't. I'd put up with the 1070 until new cards arrive if it were me :)

Well the rumours are that the 1170 will be about the same as the current 1080ti, which is a big step up in power over the 1070. That's about 50% in real frames. The 1180 is however only rumoured to be about 20% more powerful than the 1170 / 1080ti.
Even if the price of the 1170 is hyped up a little at launch it still ( probably ) represents the best bang for buck as they say. But whether that additional 50% in FPS is enough for you, only you can say. Course if you are impatient then just get a 1080ti right now.
Don't forget, though, that the 1170 is rumoured to use a lot less power than the 1080ti so you are talking significantly quieter and/or cooler operation.

I've gone from the 1070 to a 1080ti ftw3,got it of these forums for £700 as I'm going to be going for a bigger monitor so I really needed the extra power to run one.

Cheers for the comments all.

I would sell my 1070 towards either the 1180 or 1080ti, my main concern is, I dont want to wait, pre orders go up and they instant out of stock until 2019 or prices are way higher than the 10 series RRP.

I suppose the 1080ti is only really 1 year old, so buying now it should last a good while?

This is why I buy EVGA as their warranty are second to none, when the new cards come out I'll see how've much better they are and I may sell the 1080ti .

After reading about that chap here who got a 1080 replacement for his 980Ti from EVGA, I'm inclined to agree.

Think my next (new) purchase will be from them.

What are people predicting availability will be like for the 11 series?. Will we be able to get easy pre orders in or is it just going to be miners making everything out of stock for a year or more?

Excluding miners, I think it'll be fairly difficult to get hold of one at first....so much pent up demand from gamers alone.

I think by the time the 3rd party cards come out it should be alright.

I predict it will be the same as the last new card launches, little availability and stupidly expensive, for 2yrs now. I await a card that's better value than my 980Ti. (not likely)
