New build - moved in on 18th May - Debt collection letters for Gas+E

Hi all, as title. I just moved in and did not yet get around to swapping GAS/Electric.

Within a WEEK (both dated 25th May) I now have two debt collection letters from British Gas energy. (£233 + 346 respectively).

Is this normal practice after just a week of moving in!?! Or fall out from the housing builder?

Did you take/submit your opening meter readings?

This - just call and explain - it’s the builder not providing confirmation of completion and handover etc - just call the provider and explain. Happens all the time.

OK thanks guys, I signed up with British Gas anyway just now, will call them tomorrow and act shocked as these letters arrived!

I had this when I moved into a new build. Phoned and explained, never heard from them again.

Builders must use a lot of leccy+gas in new builds before handover?
