Looking for a budget phone ?

So i wanna buy a mid range smart phone with an average camera. Im just gonna shot photos of my newly born baby so i need a camera that would do fine in low light conditions.

Im thinking of Huawei P20 Lite Vs Samsung A8. The A8 has a better 1.7 aperture but the P20 lite has dual cameras so im really confused.

Which is better ?

For recording an event like this I'd be looking at a proper camera for proper photos. Even a relatively cheap one would be far better than any phone camera.

Second hand s5, s6 or moto g4. No point on anything lower as just poor grainy colourless pictured.

That is sound advice and more people should do this rather then moan about poor quality camera phones

Absolutely this. Your children will grow up in a flash. Get yourself a relatively cheap DSLR like a Nikon D3100 and a 35mm lens and you'll be taking great images of your children for years to come. Think of it as an investment.

I see more and more people asking the same question..."what's a good phone with a decent camera" if people want decent photos then buy a decent point and shoot camera for £200 and a cheap Chinese phone.

You will be happy with the results of a decent camera than a phone.

In fairness to a lot of people, due to mainstream marketing, there is a belief that dedicated cameras are obsolete and all you need is a camera phone.

Camera phones have come a long way and for a lot of circumstances they're fine but they cannot (yet ) replace a dedicated camera.

However, although I agree a dedicated camera is always going to be better, the advantage of a phone is that you always have it with you. I know some people are going to be happy carrying a camera around but there are still going to be times when its not with you and you really with it was.

Sony xperia xa1/2 are good phones with decent camera it has same sensor as the Sony z5 phones, a little outdated but still takes excellent shots.

But if budget allows I would also echo a similar advice as others in that a dedicated point and shoot is better, if size s an issue then the Sony DSC-RX100 MkIV is a brilliant
Point and shoot and so compact that you hardy notice it.

Having said that my mum take pictures of her grandson with her phone much more and this is the way it will go as phones have seriously eroded the point and shoot market for camera companies which is understandable because of the convenience but what gets me is how slow companies are updating the quality of cameras if phones. It's still very small sensor sizes, now they are moving to multiple sensor rather than one big sensor which is a mistake in my opinion.
