Let’s talk Dremels

Will be much easier with snips and either way you're going to have to file it down to make it not look ****.

Unless you have a lot of other stuff you know you're going to need the dremel for then personally I would just save the money. Hell TBH I personally would just use my snips on that rather than my dremel, would be quicker and result in a better pre-filing finish anyway.

How would you you get a start, drill or dremel out a section? Or would your snips fit in the holes?

FWIW, I've got a cheap nasty tool and use genuine dremel cutting discs in it and it works brilliantly. I'm using it on metal on cars though so you'd probably get away with using the cheap nasty cutting discs that come with the cheap nasty tool if you're just after a one use job :)

For anyone who cares or even hopefully this can save people a few quid if they’re in the same situation. I bought the cheap branded Dremel from amazon:

Along with the Dremel speedclic starter kit (comes with 2 metal cutting discs) and it done the trick brilliantly! Just need to get a file to tidy it up but overall pleased with my purchase and saved £25 or so.

Thats the one I bought too "VonHaus Heavy Duty 170W Rotary Multitool Combitool Multi Purpose With 120PC Accessory Set" cost me £18.99 then I bought some diamond cutting discs off Amazon too. Its brilliant. Came with 3 years warranty too.

Used it to carve out the innards on this (took two weeks to remove a helluva lot of plastic)

Is your son wearing that outfit?

Yes, first pic is a 48" standalone Stormtrooper figure that was being sold it has internal sound that activates when you walk past it. Got the idea off the 501st Stormtrooper site few people have done it. Took me 4/5 weeks in total and a lot of swearing. All the inner support plastic had to be carved out I was constantly covered in white bits looked like it had snowed on me. Ideal for a Dremel like tool. Bought a full face Stormtrooper helmet and modified it as the original figure helmet is way too small. Electronics transferred to inside the gun so he can "fire" it and it makes Stormtrooper phrases and laser blasts.

Been to one convention already where he got a lot of attention going to take him to another one later this year.

Serious respect man, I see a lot of parents who don’t take time for their kids, not only did you put a load of work into something for him, but you get to spend dad & boy time going to conventions. Good on you mate.

I always said if I had kids I’d get them into all my geeky stuff but the step-son is into *shudder* Macs, makes me nauseous. Going to see if I can convert him with that win10 Apple theme ;)
