Upgrade from GTX 1070 to GTX 1080TI or wait??

Thank you for all the replies all.

In the end I ended up actually making my first purchase with Overclockers for the Zotac Amp 1080TI. It seemed a good price and I made a fair bit on my old 1070 to go towards it so only paid around £300 for the 1080TI, which for my 1440p monitor should be fine for some time.

Niiiiiiiiiiiice card, enjoy!!!

(and don't forget to register it within 30 days with Zotac for the 5yr warranty)

It's not just the power, it'll be an improved all round product. After 2 years there will likely be new features. Some are predicting the new cards to work better with lower level API's like DX12 so should in theory stand out in new forthcoming titles. The current range are all based on technology that's been around now for 2 years which is a long time in tech. The next gen GPU's will be faster, more efficient and be improved in other areas and support new features.
Many who buy now IMO will wish the waited, even if we don't see new cards this year, although I'll be surprised if we don't. I'd put up with the 1070 until new cards arrive if it were me :)

The length of time the tech has been around doesn't change the fact that it's current tech. There is nothing better out there, and might not be anything better for months.

It's current old tech :). Technology moves fast. I wouldn't buy a mobile phone that's been on the market for two years and especially if the price is the same or greater than it's release price. Same for CPU's, TV and even cars really, although in the case of cars I'd just not want to be buying at the end of refresh/new model release cycles.
Hopefully the longer they leave it the better the next products are.
Seems a bit cheeky for NV to be talking about 4K, HDR high refresh rate monitors when their current GPU's will probably not be strong enough to power them well enough,so hopefully at least they'll get some new very high end gaming GPU's out in time for those.
With predicted improvements like working better with low level API's, makes it more of a no-brainer to me to wait it out, if someone has a GPU that at least gives fairly decent performance already.
It's also about value which is strange when talking about GPU's at the moment but a buyer would probably see better value now from getting in early on the next gen, from both getting a better product/experience and also resale value perspectives.

Don't get me wrong, Pascal has been great and way ahead of where NV GPU's have been before, and especially vs the competition. Titan X's probably still allowing max settings to be used in most new games at 1440P at least.

Most people are sheep, that's why they all follow the herd with the 4k buzzword. I went 1440p high hz, nice image and if i can hit the high FPS then it's just a bonus :) and not much struggle for a good GPU.

Looking forward to seeing pricing and the non blower cards.
