Is anyone here in the market for a GPU and waiting for the new NVIDIA cards?

I'm playing with a GTX 670 and its good enough to 1080p the games I want to play at present. However I'm getting the ultrawide-itch and now just waiting for NVIDIA to release their new GPUs before dipping in for a new build.

Is anyone here in the similar situation? Does anyone have a set deadline before they're like **** this, I'm just going to build a new PC?

I’m currently waiting for the new cards to come out........only so the 1070,1080’s drop in price.

So much roumers going about it’s hard to tell at the moment.

I’m giving it another few months and either see what like around Black Friday time or January, I’ll get either a 1070 or 1080 my 1060 is holding up fine just now

My F-it moment was when Gibbo put up some decent deals on custom Vegas last month. Prior to that, was still on an old 290X.

i have a gtx 980 which was fine until i got a 4k tv. i hope to wait for as long as it takes to get an 1180... however there are a whole bunch of games i am holding off getting, inc some stuff in vr so i am beginning to be tempted.

if i saw a full sized gtx 1080ti with a price starting with a 5xx or with a few games i was interested in bundled, i may crack and buy one instead.

I need something that is at least as powerful as a 1080, but I would be really annoyed if I bought a 1080 now and the new one comes out in a month. I really wish that NVIDIA would end it's stupid silence. The market has been totally messed up this year and NVIDIA's silence really doesn't help at all. We are now expected to pay top prices for two year old tech, a situation I'm not happy with. I dunno, whether I will wait or just give in and get a 1080. My own feeling is that they probably won't realease something new until a little closed to the end of the year, but who knows? So come on NVIDIA, we have had a rough year, we deserve better than being messed about by you guys as well.

Got £400 put away (I wouldn’t spend more than that on a GPU) if a 1080 or a 1070ti drop below £400 I’ll buy, if not I’ll hang on till the new cards, wether it’s AMD or NVIDIA.

Though my 290 is still happily going strong at 1080p 60hz and even VR games

When I got the itch I a few years ago I started putting £20 away a month until new cards came out. A year later the GTX 1080 dropped, the £240 I saved and the money I would get from selling my current card made buying it day one a much less costly affair. Furthermore buying day one means you get to enjoy your purchase for the longest possible time.

Of course you run the risk of early adopter problems and other such controversies (cough970cough) but it's worked well for me.

the gtx 970 fiasco did end up a bit of a nothing thing imo. yes it sucked, yes NV probably should have sold as a 3.5gb card and then had the extra 500mb as a bonus.... but even so, it was still (and is still) a very capable card that at the time offered nuts value for money even in its "crippled" state.

imo the problem with it was how it was marketed not how it performed OR how much it cost.

I'm getting a bit tired of waiting, I have a GTX 970 at the moment and was hoping to upgrade next month but since this is no longer the case I'm left waiting still.

Tempted to buy an EVGA GTX 1070 TI for the Step-Up program, so if nvidia drop anything in the next 3 months, I'm covered.

Good idea?

My "set date" for buying a new nVidia card is the date that they add FreeSync support.

looking for a used titan xp, but typically that auction site hasn't got any at the moment. and the crazy prices of the US ones...

Don't bother waiting. Even if Nvidia launched a new range of video cards tomorrow you will get the same performance at the same price point as they will be manufactured on the same 16nm.

Out of interest, why are people mentioning a 1080 when a 1070Ti is similar in performance yet cheaper? Have to ask as I am watching 1070, 1070 Ti, 1080 and at the right price would probably bite the bullet myself but usually see the 1070 Ti's get the best support from online communities.

Yep, I'm debating whether to spend £430 on a EVGA 1070 TI or wait it out, could be waiting a long time though, but some rumours still point till July for next gen, though the man himself said we'd be waiting a long time, hence why I'm going back and forth constantly :p

I have a GTX 1060 on a ultra-wide atm. It runs games pretty good will settings turned down a little, but I'm looking at a 1070Ti or 1080. I was going to wait for next gen, but prices are going to be stupid on them as I'm hearing from rumours. I'll be skipping 1180 or whatever they call them for current gen. It'll be more than enough for the next year or 2.

Well the market is in a mess at the moment. It very much depends on which particular card you want, and what prices you can find, but for some the 1070ti and 1080 are within £30 of each other. In that case it makes sense to get the 1080. The 1080 I am tempted by is exactly £30 dearer than the 1070ti version. With a 5-10% performance increase it makes sense to get the 1080.

I just dipped over to the common retailers to check your observation and the difference tends to be between 40 and 60 £ from cheapest of both models. When your talking 30 or less its probably not bad but if its 50+ notes more then is that what your paying for? (5-10% performance)

But if you think about it from business/cooperate point of view, it would make sense for him to say that as it would encourage more people to snap up the old stock of soon to be EOL cards at high prices, rather than trying to get most them off the shelf later at largely reduced EOL pricing. Put yourself in his shoes, you'd probably do the same in making vague remark like that :p

Don't expect them to care about us cows (to be milked), every cooperate decision is about pleasing the shareholders/investors and increasing market-shares first and foremost ;)
