Nvidia - Anti-Competitive, Anti-Consumer, Anti-Technology

Yup pretty much all of that is true about nvidia, but as of course the kids dont care, heck a lot of them were not even alive when nvidia started its nonsense.

I remember bumpgate very well, caused me a lot of problems with machines we had brought in. I wont be forgetting that just because nvidia brings out a fancy card or two.

If you ignore their history and dirty tricks. Advancements? Dodgy tricks with drivers and benchmarks is hardly clever, underhand maybe. Success by trying to kill off your competitors with sharp practice isn't success in my book and I own a 1070.

You need to get your head out of the gaming GPU pit my friend, like them or not they have clearly invested heavily in advancing AI and deep learning capabilities. Think wider than 'oh no my 1080ti is expensive'.

So far this thread shows exactly why that video needed to exist. The vast majority of people arguing against it have obviously not watched it and instead just assumed what topics have been covered and what had been has been said about them.

Watch it, then come back and see what points you can debunk.

Oh that's right! nVidia invest in AI and deep learning so who cares about their underhanded shenanigans in the gaming segment :D

Lol I'm 47 years old and have a lot more to care about than gaming ;) With age comes a perspective and I care about who I support add that shapes the world we live in. It's a shame more people don't do the same when it comes to election day or we'd have a lot nicer planet to live on.

As for AI there are a lot more players than Nvidia and it has a very long way to go yet...

Bingo, just look at who put in the early investment into rocket technology and the space program. Amazing how most people haven't a clue or care about nothing more than the here and now. Come to think about it, that reminds me of my dog at dinner time lol :)

You're right, who cares that they are in business to make money.

Bizarre... I mean elections and rockets. This forum section is completely pointless isnt it.

Reading some of the comments on the first page its obvious people either haven't watched the video or have already decided to reject it's contents as nonsense even though its all been correctly sourced.

We have to pay £500 for mid range GPU's like a GTX 1080 and people will still happily hand over their money and defend Nvidia. When the status quo is like this it's no wonder this market is so boring and expensive, thank you fanboys!

Supermarkets lie to me every day, I could avoid them on principle and starve.:D:)
We can only hope! :o:p:D I jest, of course.

Depends what the supermarket lies to you about, if they lie to you about the fat content in your custard tart then who cares, but if they lie to you about a large purchase, say a TV then most people would be cheesed off and it would tarnish the view the customer has of that supermarket, I would hope people wouldn't say, oh well they invest in the chicken double dippers I like, or, they're a business in it to make money so I don't mind getting shafted.

What is more interesting is the way that people seem to be getting more and more critical of NVIDIA these days and I can't help but feel that it's a lot to do with the way they have failed to handle the problems caused by mining. They seem far more interested in AI and vehicle processors than they do in their old market base - the gamers - and people are starting to take note of that fact.

I'm way less critical of nvidia than I used to be, as they've not directly compromised their own customers to try and get one up on their competition for a while. I'm sure they'll repeat though, same leadership so why assume they wouldn't?

Edit: I lie, adaptive sync still disabled on dGPUs really has to count. OK as bad as always.

Edit2: not watched the video yet, might do tomorrow so dunno what it's point is so apologies if either duplicating some of it or going wildly off on a tangent.

You have to spend the a similar amount for an AND GPU at the same performance level. And if AMD can't compete why would any other GPU company of a similar size compete if they still existed?

And if you think that Nvidia has killed to competition is bad. (It may be)
I put it to you that if they hadn't and we had 5 or 6 competing companies all with small R & D budgets including AMD and Nvidia, all the current generation of GPUs could be significantly slower than they are now.
So you could be paying £400 for a RX580 level performance because it's the top end card. (But you'd be happy because you wouldn't know any better)

I put it to you that most of NVIDIAs R&D budget is going towards AI and deep learning and we haven't had a new GPU architecture for 2 years. Plus Pascal was just a highly clocked version of previous cards.
