Will be doing mine in october (first available holiday),doing a 4 day course.

Any tips and whats the pass rate like ?

Why not just take lessons now and you will probably be up to test standard by October. I can't imagine the pass rate is very high after just 4 days of driving. Is it one of those dodgy residential ones they do in places like Blackpool? If so you'll be car sharing with other people on the same course.

My daughters friend did one not knowing anything and she passed. But i don't know what her driving is like. I think lesson's are better than doing these intensive courses.

I can drive so just need 4 days to pass my test.

I did 3 or 4 driving lessons then went for my test. Probably helped I already knew basic things like... how to use a clutch.

Driving tests are all about observation and making sure you arent a moron on the roads (so they are failing miserably). But learning to pass your test and learning to drive are 2 different things.

Assumed you've booked it and therefore have talked, but meh! I'm interested because I'm tempted by this kind of thing... never got around to finishing learning. Not that I need to be able to drive, but being in Scotland it'd be cool to be able to randomly hire a car now and then and explore.
I haven't booked it yet, just wanted some real world replys from people who have done it.

I think it would be better to hear from people who have done it through the person you are going to use, have you done any searches on his name?

Daughter passed first time two week intensive course, the guy had never had a fail. Not sure but think if he didn't think you were ready you weren't taking it.

I know someone who did it and found it very tiring. You're going from 0 to full days trying to learn a new skill and spending a lot of time concentrating etc.

The pressure is obviously on because you've spent a lot of money and want to pass within a short timeframe but it is possible. However, it only really gets you the basics. As with anything, the longer you spend learning the better and more comfortable you'll be at the end, within reason of course.

I missed this post. Can you do all of the maneuvers? If so the course should be alright as you're not starting at base of 0.
I can do all the maneuvers fine, ive driven many a time from southend to ipswich and back in the same day and to busy places like lakeside....and of course with being 100% legal with L plates, insurance and a passenger with a full license next to me.

As you said,it's about spending best part of £1000 and not get the license and doing it all over again in the future.

Just looking at my option really as well as my first car which will be a estate car.

In a way your actually slight worse off for having been driving around without an instructor, you'll know the mechanics of how to drive but likely have picked up a fair few bad habits and according to my instructor moons ago that was the biggest problem. That said I'd be surprised if based your experience you can't pass after a weeks intensive course.

You sound like you're at a level where you don't need any lessons?

I did one of these, a bit like yourself I already had driving experience albeit not as much as you. I failed the test at the end for hesitation as a bus started to pull out on me as I came up alongside it, so I slowed down to let it out (the road narrowed just further ahead) and it too stopped. Didn't seem fair at the time but there we go.

It knocked my confidence a bit so I did another day and a half with the same guy a week or two later and passed.

I did a 5 day course, no prior experience. Passed with 2 minors, both I think were unfair. :p

This is going to sound daft (since the clue is in the name) but I found it really intense. On day 3, it all came together and I thought I had it nailed. Then on the morning of day 4 I just made a few mistakes, and got frustrated at my regression. But I still had 6 more hours to do that day. So it was actually quite tough, but I was more than prepared by the time I took my test.

It worked for me as fixed lessons over a long period of time wouldn’t have fit with my work schedule or personality type.

I used to think that they were stupid and dangerous but then I did my bike test were intensive courses are the normal.

Having passed both ways I'd take an intensive course all day long over lots of lessons.

No idea on cars ones though but good luck.
