Had to do a SL1 medical report to dvla today. Got diagnosed with a sleep breathing disorder (but not sleep apnoea). Spoke to my gp about it and they didn't know if it was a reportable condition or not and the dvla helpline said I need to just so they can investigate.

Now got to worry for a few weeks to see what they will do (if anything).

I'm hopeful that it will be nothing more than a note on file as the helpline guy I spoke to said as long as its under control it will probably be OK.

I don't know what that condition is. You'll likely be sent some paperwork, maybe to your GPs and they'll have to do a fitness exam in a sense. The DVLA will have some questions and your GP will be forced to answer them with you present, that gets sent to the DVLA and they give a rulling (they have a board of however many doctors and consultants which make the decisions)

Well I have nonrem parasomnia (apparently half my brain is asleep whilst the other half is sort of awake and responds to stimulus from the sleeping side. These manifest as night terrors) caused by a sleep breathing disorder - I dont get enough oxygen at night - but it’s not obstructive sleep apnoea.

Made more stressful as I go on holiday this week and had to get the sl1 over before I go as otherwise my license would be cancelled as there is now a medical note on it, as long as the paperwork is with dvla I’m ok to drive as it’s under investigation.

More hassle I could do without

Yes, I have to renew my licence every year for mental health reasons..you can still drive while your licence is being processed / investigated.

In the end they wrote to me saying they were contacting my consultant to confirm if im "ok to drive". No issues, I think most if is just a formality more than anything else with the DVLA.

Ok, so assuming that you filled in a form that basically asked for your GP info. They'll send a questionaire to your GP. You'll then need to book an appointment within 4 weeks with your GP and complete this questionaire. It will then go to the DVLA as per I said above.

That's my understanding of the process anyway
