According to them minorities tend to live in poorer parts of London such as the area around London City airport, and majority of the countries most affected by climate change are in sub-saharan Africa. Because of this certain races are more likely to feel the effects of pollution and climate change, hence labelling it 'racist'.

Both the people and the countries aren't the primary contributors to pollution and climate change so I'd say there is an injustice being done there. Labelling it racist might be a bit extreme but the arguments and causes are legitimate. But hey lets post a funny meme!

Labelling it "racist" is nonsensical... though that does seem to be the trend these days thus the meme. In other news there are white people living close to Heathrow....

Am biting lip as I don't want a suspended sentence again but its getting really silly now.

No one lectures the East European/Balkans countries because they don't give a **** about all this. It's about time we didn't either.

It's the wording of the statement that's wrong not the idea.

If less BAME people are cycling as a % of that population then it seems sensible to promote the idea within those populations, it benefits us all.

The problem was framing it as promoting diversity among cyclists and not just saying we'd have less health and pollution problems if more BAME were to cycle more often.

That's NP, you can self identify as a black or Asian guy. Then kick off, post on twitter about it and write to the guardian if they disagree :D
 
Hmm, I'm curious.

Is it better to recruit a cyclist from the non-cyclist population if they're black? Do you get a higher word score in that case?

Surely the target should be increasing the % of cyclists. Not increasing the number of white cyclists by some value, and the number of black cyclists by another, slightly higher value.

Perhaps it comes down to marketing statistics.

If a white guy starts cycling and you measure the whole population, that's a tiny % increase.

If no black people are cycling and you recruit one, that's +infinity % increase of black cyclists. Infinity is a nice, large figure and looks good in a headline.

"Govt initiative increases BAME cyclists by Infinity Percent in a single day."

See how good that looks?

Less to do about 'giving a ****' than more so due to there being a minuscule amount of non-whites?
