I'm looking at getting a credit card to build my credit and whilst I'm at it, I was thinking about switching banks for my main (currently with Llyods).

What banks should I be looking at? I try not to drop below 1k on my account.

Tesco is 3% interest with no messing around, TSB is 5% with messing around.
That used to be true for Tesco, however things changed - I suppose as a way of throttling the demand.
To earn 3% AER credit interest on balances up to £3,000 until 1 April 2019, simply pay in at least £750 and pay at least three Direct Debits each statement month (excluding Direct Debits to Tesco Bank savings accounts)

There are accounts which will pay you cash each month as a reward just for having credits going in and direct debits going out - Some of these can pay more than just credit interest.

If you’re using the credit card just to create a good credit history i.e. you plan to pay it off in full every month.

Look at cash back credit cards. Amex Platinum, give you 5% cashback on the first 2.5k for the first 3 months. 1% on everything else. It only pays out at the end of the year though but it’s a nice little bonus. Has a fee of £25 for the year. If you put your shopping and petrol and online shopping on it you’ll absolutely make your money back and more.
