Hi Team,

I have purchased my previous two systems from overclockers and been delighted with them. It's time for an upgrade / new one! Current spec is below, I'd appreciate advice so that I can run all the latest games nice and smooth on top settings, plus increasing storage capacity. A good WIFI receiver and plenty of USB ports (for mouse/keyboard/headset/phone) are essential (the virgin WiFi signal is particularly flaky).

Budget is c£1,000. Can increase this if a new monitor is required. Would obviously prefer to reuse anything that doesn't need replacing (case, power supply, SSD BluRay?)

All purchased in 2012:-
- Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
- Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail
- Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
- Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gbs Solid State Hard Drive (CT128M4SSD2)
- Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gbs 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003)
- Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 700W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
- LG CH10LS28 BD-ROM 10x BluRay ROM DVDRW SATA-II Optical Drive - Black (Retail)
- Corsair Carbide 300R Mid Tower Case - Black
- Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
- Akasa AK-CC4007EP01 Nero 3 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA7751155115613662011AMD
- OcUK Value 150Mbps Wireless-N PCI-Express Adapter

Purchased pre 2012:-
- Samsung SyncMaster245B Monitor

(Have mouse/keyboard/headset taken care of).

Many Thanks !

With Vega above, grab another 8GB of ram and better WiFi card

Agree with Orbitalwalsh, new GPU and Monitor will make a big difference!

Are you looking at SSD storage or HDD storage?

Also if you are having issues with WI-FI, have a look to see if a PowerLine kit would work for you.

plenty of USB ports (for mouse/keyboard/headset/phone)

You may find it more convenient to get a USB hub or two and plug your devices into that. I used to want plenty of USB ports on my PC but using hubs (mainly on the monitors) makes cable management much easier.

I agree with the others that a GPU and monitor upgrade is really all you need. I'll note that your current monitor does not have a HDMI input and is unlikely to support the recent versions of HDCP. That said, it was earlier this year that my own Intel 3770S /Z77 system began to get flakey, so you may well be at the replacement point.

My other suggestion is to ditch wifi and make your link cabled.

Thank you for the responses! So it seems the GPU is in need of upgrade?
Yes, I've maxed out the SDD (games like TW Warhammer 2 are just unplayable with their load times without being installed here - its literally night and day). The HDD is less of an issue but I am having to remove games to add new.
Will look into the USB hubs never thought of getting one.
I cant ditch the wifi as the virgin line and my "man cave" are unfortunately too far apart ;o)

Is there a significant/noticeable difference between the monitors, the price tags are quite apart?

Yes, a GPU upgrade will make a huge improvement to your gaming experience, i have a similar spec to you and i'm playing games at 4k with a 1080ti.

With regards to monitors, i would suggest you do your own research and see what each feature does and whether you want to invest in it.

G-sync has hardware based inside the monitor which drive sup the price . id be happy for either - cheaper and allows for SSD/Wifi card

dont tend to quote conflicting sync cards unless its for tigher budget systems using gtx 1060 were they can push over 60 fps but basic nvidia monitors are £400!!! if your getting an expensive nvidia/amd card then get the monitor to sync it with

I don't quite agree with this, i understand the benefits but if someone cant justify £500 for a G-sync monitor then getting a nvidia card with a freesync monitor just means they don't use any sync tech.
And not having sync tech is not a huge deal, its nice to have but not a must have.

£250 card and £200 freesync/non freesync card i could understand . but landing down close to a grand, I'd expect gameplay to be as smooth as tech would allow.. if not, xbox and freesync HDR TV for cheaper ... :(

just my personal view - why now Vega cards finally getting flower in price and freesync monitors being cheaper.

£20 more then gtx 1070ti with same monitor, wouldnt hit as higher FPS, but gameplay would be so much smoother - specially if your nuts for fortnite,BF,overwatch,CS:GO etc

After reading around it seems that g-sync is the better option (putting price aside) is that correct and is it actually noticeable? This would lead me towards:-

However reading some reviews of the monitor, a lot of quality issues out there. Am I reading too much into this or is it fairly likely to land with defects, in which case, is there an alternative at a similar price point?

I have then also started looking at the Radeon Pro Vega 64 and GeForce GTX 1080i - could I simply stretch budget for a better GPU without needing to upgrade anything else in the original system post?

Apologies, lots of questions but I do love a good set of options !

I am also looking to purchase very quickly (I was hoping today), or is something else due to release very soon that I should wait for?

So it's worth the extra £300ish for a GTX 1080i?
Would I need a different monitor to get the benefit?

So, I've gone full circle and decided against the price point for gsync after reviewing multiple sources.

Is the below OK? Should I be investing in a new CPU here? Remember the original budget was £1,000 plus additional for monitor....! I can't find the same RAM I currently use in the OCUK store too add to basket, does it need to match with the existing/could you recommend another?

I have ordered the VEGA 64 & Optix MAG27CQ 27", should both arrive Sunday! (also picked up the same RAM as I currently have from another store as unfortunately OCUK do not sell it now).

Thanks for all the help & will let you know how it runs!

All parts delivered, had a little trouble setting up:
- GFX card needs two 8 PIN PSU connectors (my old card had a single 6 PIN). Luckily I had kept the original spare cables that came with the Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 700W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply and was able to sort.
- My powersupply is 50W below the recommended 750W but seems to be running fine.
- Took quite a few reboots for the GFX card and Monitor to work over HDMI connection, now seems to be working.
- Unfortunately there is a single dead pixel on the monitor so I will call OCUK tomorrow.

Otherwise very happy with the increased performance & screen clarity!

Hello back again! Resurrecting the original thread.

The new GPU+Monitor has made a huge difference and I'd like to upgrade the rest now for best gaming experience. Could you please recommend based on a budget of £1,000?
Obviously prefer to not be changing the new GPU+Monitor as only had them a few months and I like the case if its possible to keep. A larger SSD is a must as running out of space constantly now. Powersupply is also under the Vega64 spec (but its been working fine) so will need to up that too.
