But the chamber’s oxygen levels are at 15%, heavy rains are inbound starting Sunday and there are fears sinkholes might form above the chamber they’re in causing it to collapse.I think they've got a 5-month wait until the water level drops.
Has anyone asked the question as to why these inappropriately dressed kids were doing going into these tunnels in the first place?
Yes, I'm no expert but all the discussions are that cave diving is hugely difficult and different to 'normal' diving.Cave diving is horrifically hard and dangerous - tried it once, never again. Have done tons of wreck dives and stuff, but caving is just horrifically different.
Pedant: Ran out of air, not oxygen. You rarely dive on oxygen as such, and certainly not at any depth.

nope, BBC site has a diagram of the tunnel cross sections, some are like 2-feet diameter, it's mentalIt's probably an easy walk when it's not flooded
That's what has really confused me, how on earth did they get through some of those really tight spots?

Despite all the training based around rescuing a diver (a big part of the sport diver qualification) one of the instructors told me if it ever came to it and their buddy was seriously panicking they would just swim away rather than put themselves at risk
Just tow a 4km air line? when was the last time you tried 'just' pulling 4km of hose? They're putting one in as we speak but it's not exactly the sort of thing where the guy at the front just grabs the end and pulls it along behind him.Details are a bit sketchy but to me it sounds like they could do more.
Firstly on the air situation, cant they just tow an air feed line through the tunnels and pump air in?
Secondly on the evacuation. Not sure how many kids there are but extract one at a time with a team of divers. Lay guide ropes with underwater lights on through the tunnel system. The kid doesnt need to swim, just be towed along. If panic, then put them under anesthetic for the extraction.
How many pumps have they got in the cave system? If its only a few then get more. There should be a huge amount of experience available in the world from mine dewatering which is commonplace.
