Thai cave rescue - One of the divers has died

He is an expert, he’s British so automatically he has more expertise and authority than those highly trained navy seal divers, because what do they know huh?
Exactly, because who would want members of the UDAU one of finest aquatic special forces units in the world attempting to use their resources and skills and experience in difficult situations to lead your attempted rescue.....

A lot of "third world" countries get the best people from the UK, US etc to train their people so they are top quality. Its amazing how armchair scientists genuinely think that with quite literally zero knowledge on cave rescue are slating the rescue effort that contains 1000's of people and experts from all over the world. Honestly, how do you even start to think that you would be able to offer any expertise on the issue. Are you one of those people who talks a lot about common sense down the pub and tells it like it is.

Can solve any problem with thoughts and prayers.

Look, how many people were involved in finding them to start with. it was a couple divers giving up their own time.

Second. When they were found, did a full on emergency response kick in immediately with full mobilisation? no.

Now we are two weeks in and they are only just getting in an air line.

If this had happened on the london underground we would be drilling shafts by now and we'd have proper equipment inside shoring up the internals and attempting to widen the access routes.

Is anyone able to confirm what Laos has contributed to the process? An experienced diver ran out of air for god sake. He had one buddy. That may be normal in recreational diving but this is a military operation! One buddy? Come on.

It’s often more difficult to dive with more than one buddy, probably even more so in a cave

Like already said, if you’re such an expert then get yourself over there to help , I’m sure they’ll be out in hours then!

In this instance it seems pretty obvious the light is on but nobody is home.

The diving is an 11 hour round trip, 5 hours with the current to get to the boys, 6 hours back against the current.
That blew my mind when I read that, it's not like they are down the local cave having a game of hide and seek.

I'm curious how you expect them to get sufficient drilling equipment into the jungle covered mountains with no roads in place to facilitate ease of transport for said equipment

For the Chilean miners it was easy to get equipment to start drilling due to the location, likewise if it was the underground London is littered roads, in Thailand however....

That's the location according to Google maps

Doesn't seem the most accessible places to start drilling

Mynamar? Laos? Finland? Come on get a grip.

United Kingdom, China, Myanmar, Laos, Australia, the United States, Russia, Finland, Sweden, and Israel.

What point are you trying to make here?

Its been a week now and they are only just installing an air line. Should have been 1st job on the list.

Their primary goal has been to reduce the amount of water in the cave system, to ensure that the kids don't drown, and to make the rescue easier. They've removed 128 million litres of water so far. Not enough for you?

If this had happened on the london underground

'If this had happened in the middle of a sophisticated urban metropolis, faster and simpler methods could have been used.'

No ****, Sherlock.

Why don’t they just use those bombs they used in Afghanistan to flush out bin laden that can penetrate into deep rock , why is no one thinking of these things!

Or one better - tactical nuke (not a big one of course that would be silly). Set that off and melt the rock into a vast glass like cavern and they could skate across to escape. Except we would have to send Torville and Dean to teach them how to skate first before they could escape

Which is why I asked the question as I have not heard a reporter ask it on any news channel I have watched over the past few days.

I did hear the answer to this - apparently its a thing in that area - dunno if its for luck or what, but many people would go into the caves and write their names on a part of the cave wall to show you have gone that far.

That marker is only a fingers length away from the roads at Tham Pum Dharma and even closer to Phu Phahee Coffee, just drop the drills off their via air drop.

Get a side on view as well :s they are under like 800m of solid rock - getting the eqipment in for that kind of work takes time in the best of scenarios never mind the terrain.

Too many cooks....

.

Clearly not, as there is still water in there.

That is less than is pumped per day to supply Birmingham.

What a ridiculous idea

Everyone knows torville and Dean are contacted to dancing on ice
