Buying Private, is this buyer genuine?

are you being serious? WBAC always undervalues the cars! my z4 was valued at £4900ish and I sold it with ease for 9500!

On new stuff under 3 years, wbac tends to be pretty close to the dealer buy in values if you were just selling. If you were offered 4.9k wbac trade then a dealer may have been 500-1k more on px?

You can always get more selling privately but even 20-30% on wbac isn't as much as this chap wants.

This. It's not a useful tool for understanding the value of a car in this price range.

WBAC is just rubbish for newer cars.

Take this car as an example, I posted earlier:

https://usedcars.audi.co.uk/usedcar...gRW5nbGFuZA|1070,2016|1100,176/l|12,1,t_geo,U

34,246 GBP , 12 months newer than the one I'm looking at, not as well specced. WBAC will give you 21,295 GBP ......

Not going to agree with that.

Autotrader value check is probably the closest you'll get to real value.

AT says for this car 25,120, and that doesn't take into account the particular spec. So not far off really.

So take off Audi premium on approved used as they always inflate pricing heavily plus vat and then take 20-30% for trade in depreciation and you aren't far off.

but show me where you can buy that car for 20k lol.

saying it's worth 20k and being able to buy that spec, engine etc for 20k is completely different.

that's a bit more like it! I think they valued my z4 at just over 8k but I took the spec etc in mind and advertised it for what others were selling and it sold quick.

Most accurate to auction/dealer seems to be https://www.imperialcarsupermarkets.co.uk but you have to put a few details in and phone number.

I'm not saying don't buy it but it's easy to talk yourself up to the price he's asking to justify it.

I would have said 25.5k-26.5k. The broker and lease deals are so strong on these it does effect trade in residuals by the same % but not at approved used prices.

Not saying he can but I would imagine auction won't be far off for a 2 yr old one.

But if he were to sell to wbac or a trader then that would indicate maximum exposure to depreciation and financial risk in a worse case.

Regardless, it's only a £27.5k car so at worse it's a 7k loss which is nothing. Given the values it's hardly worth worrying about or feeling the need to justify. It's not even buyers remorse territory.

It is a very well spec’d car, it is hard getting full leather let alone with the tech pack, comfort and sound pack, matrix headlights and electric seats.

I don’t think it is a bad deal as long as everything checks out.

I’ve driven one of these and the gearbox software was poor, it was holding gears longer than expected then a few miles later doing the complete opposite. I expect it’s had a couple of software updates that may be worth trying to get under warranty as the box is much better controlled in the Q7 & A6 BITDI.

"a £7k loss which is nothing" is up there with one of the best statements I've seen on here in a while

If you're buying a car and the maximum depreciation financial exposure is anything other than a minor annoyance, then you are buying the wrong car or have your financial priorities out of order.

Buying anything that you are knowingly exposing yourself to an instant 26% loss on an asset worth tens of thousands isn't nothing, regardless of whether it empties your bank account or not!

Going in eyes open is fair enough, passing it off as if it would be a minor inconvenience (should it even be the case) is quite a stretch

Interesting, I'll keep an eye on this. The Q7 will have the same gearbox, the A6 BITDI will be slightly different due to the extra power.

Checking now you are right, the gearboxes are rated on torque the 272 version has just under 600nm so likely gets the 600nm ZF box the BiTDI has 650nm so will have the 700nm rated box the 335d has.

Either way with a brother who is a master tech software updates will be easy to get !

How did you find the engine and gearbox, software issues aside?

It is a good engine and gearbox, I found it on par with the single turbo 3L BMW engine. It is quieter than the BMW engine noticeable with the bonnet open but not in the cabin.

It can’t match the twin turbo Audi & BMW engine which have that extra low down torque from pretty much idle and lack of any noticeable lag when using full throttle at low revs. On the road very little between them all performance wise.

When I drove the 330d and 335d I found that on part throttle moving through gears 1-3 it was quite jerky. Have you seen the same on this?

I’ve not noticed it on the 3 series and the A4 after the first few shifts from a cold start. I reset the gearbox adaption on all of them which I expect will have helped, you can occasionally catch the box out with the coming off the throttle and going straight back on it at roundabouts etc this is where the twin turbo helps as it holds gears down to just over 1000 revs.
