Wi-Fi on long haul flights?

Yeah, read a book, half the weight of a tablet and no big deal if lost or broken. Can be disposed of or given away in the hotel or airport quite easily. Can also help with resting as all that screen activity inhibits sleep.

No WiFi on recent BA flights to/from India.
I get the point about not needing internet for entertainment but it's more for connecting laptop to work network that I'd want.

On a more positive note Train WiFi seems to got more reliable of late, a year or so back I would find it didn't work or was not available half the time on my typical routes.

Any one know if Qatar airways will do anything special for the world cup final? Going to be in the air on the way back to England when the finals kicking off. If not I'll have to make do with the wifi

For flights in economy classes I tend to load my phone with movies and download some from Netflix.

If you upgrade your seats will generally have plug sockets. Next long haul flight I plan to bring a gaming laptop, controller and mouse and have a ball :D

Not sure, but might be worth asking if you can use a AM radio on board, as I'd imagine you'd be able to pick up the world service etc for score updates/

I've tried to use this a couple of times on Emirates flights over to Asia and it is so bad I probably wouldn't even bother trying in future. Half the time it says it's not active at the moment then when you do manage to get on it's so slow that you can barely even send iMessages etc. Given how it is likely to be working and the amount of people on a jumbo jet it's not surprising that it doesn't work very well though.

If you are wanting to watch video you are much better just loading up your phone/tablet beforehand.

no idea but one bad bit is that there are certain countries that they have to turn the wifi over as they fly over

Genuine question what could they do? Happy to be wrong but pretty sure there would be technical, bandwidth & licensing issues around showing it live. Thats not even mentioning not everyone wants to watch a football match on a plane.
